After
strenuously denying that the PS3 would be delayed by a few months, Sony have announced that the European release of the PS3 will be
put back until March 2007. However, the US and Japan launch date of November 2006 remains the same. It's not as if this kind of treatment will come as a surprise to European gamers, since Sony
pulled exactly the same trick with the PS2 six years ago.
Whether Nintendo and Microsoft take full advantage of this delay remains to be seen. Nintendo will be the only company with a new (and cheap) console out for Christmas, but with their stake in previously exclusive series such as Pro Evo Soccer and GTA4, Microsoft have the greater advantage and become the second-choice for all those disappointed kids.
At any rate, this makes the next-gen battle more than the one-horse race it first appeared, and competition is always good for the consumer.
In other news,
the PS3 will cure Alzheimer's.
