Chaotic month ahead plus a random whinge-fest

Just finished The Truth, my first Pratchett book in about 4 years, and I'd completely forgotten how funny he can be. I have attracted many strange looks on the train and Tube over the last couple of days due to random outbursts of laughter. I suppose laughing loudly doesn't really help my case. Ahem.

One of liadnan's recent posts about Foyles made my brain twitch slightly in remembrance of something I had wanted to buy, and so I wandered in there yesterday evening on my way to Japanese and found The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime waiting for me. Eventually I remembered that he had in fact bought The Minotaur Takes A Cigarette Break for a mere £5 and that I already owned it. I'd thought at the time that he was referring to the paperback, but no, Foyles were selling the hardback at £5. Dammit. That's less than I paid for the paperback!
Still, I'm trying to buy less hardbacks these days as they take up too much space.

Band woes... I have so many but this latest annoyance was taking the piss. Allow me to explain:

Due to our desired sound engineer taking a month and a half off in mid-April, mixing of the first Dam album has been shifted forward to start at the beginning of next week instead of at the end of the month. I was informed of this on Sunday afternoon. I wouldn't mind so much but there is still recording left to be done. I have only recorded guitar parts for half of the songs, and I wanted to record more. It is galling at times to have to admit this, but my guitar playing is somewhat less than tight. Live, and in rehearsals, I am adequate but against a strict master and an unforgiving set of recorded drums, I don't always measure up to the task. I have made my peace with this over time, and I am content that I am able to make a contribution to the recording process, however small. However, I feel that I have improved in recent months due to actually picking up my guitar more than once a week, so I thought that I'd be able to record more parts, but the other guy will have to record the rest of the guitar parts over the next 6 days as I am out of the country from Thursday until next Tuesday and am busy in the meantime. Whilst he is no doubt happier that way, I am still pissed off. Bah!
