I have 5 days off this weekend started from 12-16. It's the biggest and longest holiday in Thailand. It's called "Songkran" and April 13th is also Thai new year.
The holiday is also known as "Water Festival" for the travelers b/c there will be water play (people splash water to each other) all over the country. It's also the time when families get together. Young people will go visit the elders and ask for blessing or go to the temple and make some merits.
The country almost stands still during this period of time. It's when Bangkok (the capital city where I live) is very quiet b/c people will go out for vacations out of town or go back to their families in other cities.
When I was a kid, my cousins and our friends and I would go around our blocks on a pickup truck with a big tank of water and slashed it to the people who'd like to play with us. It was so much fun. And we drenched all day (and for a few days). The water play is just crazy these days. Some streets will be closed for vehicles and there will be hundreds of people roaming around with water-guns or water bottles splashing other people. :D
I always stay home during this holiday b/c it's more peaceful in the city and it's only one time that there is no traffic at all. *heh*
So I've planed to use these days off to do some productive things such as reorganize my book boxes (not bookshelves b/c I have too many books to fit in them), update my user info and work a little on my Photoshop skill (which I'm not sure I have). :P
It's a good time to relax and let go and restore to face off the upcoming works (which has been really stressful for the moment) :)
Have a great weekend, friends.
