hey there!

we actually didn't use either, instead we networked online and matched with james' birthmom ourselves (though an ad we placed on an adoption site) and then hooked her up with our lawyer. so essentially we did a private adoption with the help of a very knowledgable quad A attorney (quad A is the American Association of Adoption Attorneys, an invitation only organization of the best adoption lawyers in the country.)

we had planned on working with an agency/facilitator, but had such a quick response to the networking we did that we never had to.

as for facilitators, there are good and bad ones, imo. there are some with really horrible reputations and others that do wonderufl work. do TONS and TONS of research on whoever you connect with, check out all the adoption boards (adoption.com's forums is a great place to start) and ask for feedback on the professional you may be working with. adoptive parents are more than willing to share their stories.

also check into what their fee structure is, and how they reimburse you if a match/placement fails.

if you want to share the name of this professional, i can try and look up some info on them. just let me know!

best of luck!
