7 weeks before Hurricane Katrina the local rag in New Orleans *forget the name of the writer* wrote a story about how if a major storm hits NO then you are basically on your own. Help a neighbor, help a friend but don't expect help from the government (NO and LA) to save your hide.
1 day before Katrina hit NO an evacuation was called for by the State of LA. Mass exodus ensued leaving behind elderly, poor and anyone who generally didn't think there was a need to leave or was just to stupid to leave.
Sunday/Monday Katrina hits. All looks well in NO. People breathe a sigh of relief.
Tuesday the levee breaks and water rushes into NO.
Wednesday - 24 hours after the levee broke the Governor issued a call to the Federal level for assistance in dealing with the issue. Scum of the earth begin looting places and acting like its a scene from Lord of the Flies. Mayor begins the blame game.
Thursday - Help begins arriving but is unable to reach most places as hoodlums are firing stolen weapons at rescue teams and are basically shutting down the relief efforts. Blame game continues.
Friday - Celebrities come down from weekday cocaine high and notice there is a chance to get in on the spotlight. Sean Penn can be found handing out bottled water with Rock the Vote pamplets. US Military shows up and starts shooting hoodlums and handing out MRE's which some people find offensive and throw away (even though they apparently haven't eaten in three days? wtf).
Saturday - Its Bush's fault. For thirty years the people of LA have voted in Democrats. For thirty years the people of NO have voted in Democrat Mayors. For years and years the Government of LA knew that the Levee's wouldn't hold against a strong storm (Democrats) yet when its time to point a finger.. who gets it? Bush. 24 hours late on the call for assistance (Gov get blamed? NOPE!! Phone must have been busy) Mayor get blamed? Nope!! He is crying on the phone to radio talk shows while his police commit suicide and turn in their badges.
Sunday - Levee is still broken but choppers full of engineers are flown in and working on problem. People complain that levee is being fixed instead of helping them. Red Cross shows up and the people who work for Red Cross are busting their rear ends while the masses mill about and cry. *pick up and shovel and help?? HELL NO!! Where's my money and btw BUSH SUCKS!!* Man o man!! Let the insanity continue...
Monday - Levee is nearing completion and water is receding. Late Monday the Levee is repaired and streets begin to clear.
