Before Game 1 of the World Series...
I went to Fenway on Wednesday after work to see the madness before Game 1
of the World Series. It was pretty cold and grey and I was almost pleased that
I wasn't able to get a ticket...almost.
This guy was painting on the corner of Yawkey and Brookline.
You may not be able to see it, but he's got a postcard that he's using a reference,
so I'm not super sure why he needed to be standing there, but hey, it's art.
I got there early enough to get onto Yawkey Way before they closed it off.
Only here does a man wearing a tuba seem vaguely normal.
I never noticed that the Souvenir Store on Yawkey Way did this:
They post the starting lineup in posters above the store. It's kind of awesome.
ESPN Deportes reporting from the Souvenir Store. At least, I'm assuming that's who he is.
He was speaking Spanish and his microphone said "ESPN" on it.
This Dice-K sign is on the corner of Yawkey and Van Ness, near RemDawgs.
Another thing I hadn't noticed before.
I loitered on Van Ness near the players' entrance. I don't know whose car this is, but the license plate intrigues me.
Someone said this was JD Drew's Hummer.
I have no idea if that is true, but I got a photo of it anyway.
I think I got there too late to see any actual players. People thought this was Coco Crisp, but I don't think it was.
I got to see the autograph he gave this woman afterwards, and, while I couldn't read it, it didn't look anything like
"Coco Crisp" and he didn't put his number on it so...yeah, doubtful. But still, what the hell, pixels are cheap.
I walked behind Fenway, Van Ness to Ipswich, which was where all the media was hiding.
Uh, guys? Something going on around here tonight?
Channel 5 is on the scene.
One thing I don't think many people realise is that there is a high school right behind Fenway Park.
Can you imagine going to school there?

Okay, I'm a dork. I got all excited to see the NHK (Japanese network) truck.
I bet this is like the Joe Buck of Japan, or somehing.

I ran into a couple who had just scored a pair of tickets. They let me take a picture of one.
This may be the closest I'll ever get to a World Series ticket.
Turning the corner onto Lansdowne Street, you see the remains the campers left behind.
The ALCS banner has replaced the Eastern Division banner on the back of the Jumbotron.
It wasn't quite dark enough, but if you look carefully, you can see the ghost of "GO SOX" on the Prudential Building.
The Boston Police had the Bomb Squad at the ready.
Some of the signs were entertaining.
This was my favourite.
Tickets for Game 1 were sold out. The line was already forming for Game 2.
I don't know why people try to drive on Lansdowne before a game,
but they do. This truck was impressive.

WEEI live on the air, conducting a phone interview with someone with a heavy Spanish accent.
I'm wondering if it might have been Louie Tiante? There was a lot of static and it was hard to tell.
Not sure if this is the same dog I saw before Game 1 of the ALCS.
On the bridge to Kenmore Square, Sidewalk Sam painted this.
I thought it was pretty cool.

We put the poster from the Boston Globe in
our window because it was the largest.
You may have seen that there is an ALCS banner flying from atop the old Hancock Building.
Of course, I had to take photos of it, since...well, I could.
