Yep! I've been one for a couple of years now! [The pride in Kazooie's voice is not easily missed.] What kinda hero stuff do you do, Pao-lin?

I catch criminals and save innocent people for HeroTV! Sometimes I also do promotional and charity events too. It depends on what my sponsors want, or what HeroTV wants.

[Kazooie is going to quickly find that Pao-lin's experience of being a Hero is a wee bit different from what she expects.]

[... On the contrary, this is almost - in a vague way - similar to Kazooie being a video game character.]

HeroTV? Who're those guys?

... So you pretty much get paid to be a hero or something? Man, how come I couldn't land a job like that?

Yep! HeroTV is a really popular TV show back where I'm from. It's been around for about 25 years. Being a Hero can be a hard job sometimes, but I really enjoy it! [And it pays pretty damn well, too, even for someone who's not super-popular.]

Sounds kinda like my job - and I'm pretty popular where I'm from too! [At least, she likes to think she is.] Lots of people like my video games!

They haven't been around that long, though.

Oh, you've done video games? That sounds really cool! What was that like?

I haven't just done 'em, I'm from them. [Kazooie gives that a moment to sink in, though it will... probably need more than a moment in all honesty.]

...from a video game? Like, you actually came out of a video game?

[Have a very perplexed Pao-lin, Kazooie.]

Yep! Well, that's my world, anyway... I've never been outside of a video game before.

[And she's still not entirely sure she is. Luceti might be a game too, after all.]

The game's named after Banjo 'n' me - I just finished the sequel, Banjo-Tooie, before I got dragged here.

O-okay...but how do you know you're from a video game?

[voice] talontrot October 25 2011, 01:27:19 UTC
... I've just known... it's weird. Everybody in my games seems to. Heck, I even knew a little about other video game characters.

[It's strange. Like other basic knowledge she had in her games, she's never been aware of... not knowing those things. It's like trying to think about her childhood - there's a weird void of time there, and it's unsettling to her.]

[........

Hokay. Pao-lin's going to just go with this for now. After all, if there are cartoon ponies running around Luceti, it's entirely possible that the Malnosso are able to pluck people from fictional media too.]

So then what happens when the game is turned off? Do you stop existing?

... Good question. I never really notice when that happens... but I guess it has to eventually. Though who'd get bored of me enough to turn it off...?

[... Really, she ends up going into a sort of suspended animation when the game gets paused and saved, but she's never really quite aware of that. Unless there's a bad end cutscene, and even then...]

I'm sure it's not that people get bored of you! But sometimes they need to take a rest, because staring at a screen for too long can strain your eyes. Or they get hungry and they need to eat, or they have to do homework, or something.

[Picturing people having lives outside of a video game is not an easy one for Kazooie.]

... Is that what people do? I mean, never been outside of the games until... now. Maybe. If this even is "outside"...
