A cool feeling is like a feeling where you think "Yeah..that sucks." In the states, it'd usually be something like "Finding out you have to work two shifts on a saturday" etc, here are a few I've encountered here.
1. Realizing that 'Route Recon' is really just "IED (Improvised Explosive Device)bait, because the only way you get intel on them is, unfortunately, when you or another convoy gets hit.
2. Wondering what are the chances you'll get missed by a mortar round launched into your camp every 2-3 days during a 365 day deployment.
3. Celebrating Christmas morning by hiding under a concrete barrier during a mortar attack
4. Waking up at 3 am New Years Day for preparation of a mission that will last until 2 PM the same day.
5. Getting to stand next to a busy street while cars roll past you a mere 8 feet away, hoping none of which is a crazy suicide bomber.
Thats pretty much it, I don't want anyone to misunderstand this. To me, this is all actually sort of funny. Sure it's scary, but in a way thats what makes this shit funny to me. Shit like " Yeah, body armor or no, a blast at this range is gonna fuck me up regardless ". I guess it's a morbid sort of humor, but that's just what makes this kinda shit memorable. Only 1 month in too, so I bet crazier shit awaits.
