Political Ranting....
Warning, the following post contains political material. I welcome open discussion, but please no personal attacks on anyone.
I was watching TV the other night, MSNBC to be exact and the commentator (notice I didn't say reporter, because reporters are to share news, not opinions) started going off on a rage about Bill O'Reilly. I realize that sometimes what he says is controversial, but honestly GIVE THE GUY A BREAK. It seems like the whole rest of the TV world is out to get him and Fox news. Usually people who criticize are those two haven't even watched them before and they are basing based on what they want to think. At the same time, I guess I can understand why... I mean anyone in the media would love to have a show all their own, AND have that show be the #1 cable news program for over 3 years. I guess it is just jealousy, but personally I think it is total crap.
Sometimes O'Reilly's mouth does get ahead of his head, but I wouldn't say it happens often. He speaks what he thinks is the truth, and people have got to give him credit for that. His opinions are based on his beliefs, which he is very public about. Which leads me on to my next topic.
The Phil Hare-Andrea Zinga Congressional race.
I'm so sick of the name calling of Zinga that I could puke. I ask people why they don't like her, the most often reply I get is "shes a bitch." Wow, that was deep, and maybe having a "bitchy" congresswoman would be a good thing. She'd probably get a lot done, bossing everybody around. I like Andrea, she gets up there and speaks what she thinks. That is important, and that is why I give her my full support. I haven't heard where her opponent stands on any issues, all he does is call her names:
-"Against the handicapped" This all stems from 2 years ago when Zinga publicly questioned whether Congressman Evans would be healthy enough to go to congress for two more years. Well, I hate to break it to you, she was right wasn't she. Evans has spent an incredible amount of time NOT working this term. His attendance policy has always been pretty bad, but this term it has been down right horrible. Granted he has been in the hospital, but we need a congressman who is going to go to congress, and not the hospital.
-"Racist" Zinga is an award winning journalist, who conducted work for affiliates of ABC, CBS and then went nationwide on CNN. I don't quite understand how CNN would hire a racist, but now apparently they did. This stems from Zinga supporting an effort to screen atleast 3 people who come into the country on flights from countries like Pakistan, and Iran. Other countries all over the world do this, I don't understand how this makes her a racist.
-"Accepted a $5,000 donation from Exxon" It is true she did, but a very large portion of the rest of her money comes from Local people. Too bad you can't say the same about Hare with his radical "Left Coast" (California) donations. Or what about Hare's encounter with the illegal "Friends of Lane Evans" political fund.
As for Hare, I think his whole nomination was a big pile of crap. The democrats undermined their own voters and instead of doing the right thing by having Lane step aside and have a Primary (like the one Zinga won), they waited for the primaries to be over wtih and then nominated Hare. Yes the committee people held an election, but by that point it was too late anyways, and even big local democrats cried foul. If I was a democrat I would be fuming.
When Hare comes out with his opinions and ideas, maybe I'll see him in a different light. Right now, All I hear is a whole bunch of hypocrisy.
