home sweet DeKalb??
well, another week of interning has passed me and I would say that it is definetly still going well. I spent the week in Sioux Center, LeMars, and Sioux City Iowa. Each store was a different experience.
Sioux Center: It was your typical small town. Talk about irony, walmart and hy-vee shared a parking lot and a wall (they were side by side).. It was ironic because there is huge competition there. Walmart is our biggest competitor, and I know they don't like us much either. Oh well, atleast we (hy-vee employee owners) have morale. :) Anywho, the store was old. It still had the 80's hy-vee look, but it was very clean and very well maintained. It actually seemed kinda like a museum of Hy-Vee's past.
LeMars: The trashiest hy-vee I've ever seen. If you live here in the QC, you know how "ghetto" the rock island hy-vee is... well this one made rock-town look nice. The store was remodeled two years ago, but you would never know by how dirty and smelly it was. I'm considering seeing if I should talk to anyone at corporate about it. I was almost offended by the condition. I'd say this store is on Hy-Vee death watch. There were never more than 5 customers in the store... it seemed the new supercenter across the street was running us out. I don't blame them, I wouldn't shop there either.
Sioux City #3: The store was seven years old (From what th employees told me) and they were in the process of a major expansion and remodel. They were getting a "Hy-Vee Care," which is an in store doctor's office. We stayed at the Clarion in downtown Sioux City, it was really nice.
Over the weekend, I went to Chicago and got to see the homies from NIU. It was fun and relaxing which was very nice. Last night we spent the night in DeKalb, and it definetly made me miss school more. It was nice though because I also hadn't realized how much I miss having a room that is actually mine. It was just kind of comforting to be in a place where the room is full of my things. My room at home is the guest bedroom (my sister took mine) so it seems more like a hotel. And during the week, well you know where I am. I cant wait to go back!!
I'm putting in my new car stereo today, I'll post more on that later!
