And in St. Louis it rained....

But that probably drowned out the trains...so it's a good thing.

The Jones's are road tripping. The Jones Family Cowboys and Campfires Summer Tour '08 to be specific. (There will be T-shirts.) We started out Saturday, and it's a two week adventure. The original goal was visiting my grandmother in Kansas. And taking her camping for a few days. And we are, we're just taking our time getting there. Camping along the way. Night before last was Huntington, WV. (We are Marshall, anyone?)

Last night was St. Louis. Well west of. And the campground can't decide if it's in Eureka, Pacific or Wildwood. (it thinks it's in Eureka, Google thinks Pacific, and Issy (my GPS) thinks it's Wildwood.) We got here though. And realized it was between a railroad track and a highway. Nice campground. Just....ambient noise? Also, had a simple light problem with an easy fix that took us two hours to figure out. No s'mores last night, needless to say. And it rained. It's not at the moment, and I almost want to rush everyone out of bed and pack up. But the kids need a little more sleep. It was great to sleep to, after I woke up in a panic that the grill (which lives in the camper in a nylon bag) and the car cooler (which is also a fabric outer layer) were outside. Did I mention I sleep in the altogether? If anyone was awake in the St. Louis Route 66 campground last night....yes, that was me outside naked grabbing my cooler. *smirks* The kids whine enough, not giving them having to sit beside a wet cooler as additional reason.

Our goal today is to enjoy Route 66. The old one. The Mother Road. I have books, oh, yes I do. Because I'm the sort. I plan and figure and lay out the maps. We're headed for Joplin MO and have the whole day to get a 3 hours drive in and enjoy the nostalgia. Of course, my grandmother doesn't think we can get in the Joplin to OK City part of the route tomorrow AND to her....so we may go past Joplin a bit tonight. Tomorrow is also the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. They have the "End of the Trail" sculpture. I've seen it before. But it's always stirring to see.

There's also Kansas and a camping trip to Dodge City with my grandmother in tow on the horizon. More about that later. I have to check into staying in Tulsa tonight. And find my usual slightly damp because I'm camping clothes to put on. And then it's the daily packing circus. The upside, Kenny and I are getting darned fast at set up and take down.

Back to the road we go!
