AN: Just a small bit I wrote today since I was bored and poking at my brain. Yes Jamie is there. Because I like him. Shush.

It was London again. Judging by the familiar streets, fashions and technological advances it was the year 2008 not too soon after The Doctor parted ways with his companions.

The weather could have been better, it was gray and rainy but if Jamie didn’t mind wearing a yellow rain jacket over his kilt then The Doctor didn’t mind getting a little wet either. Besides, it was high time to buy some chips and indulge a little.

They found a small vendor outside a shopping center with delicious fumes rising from its quaint fryer and a modest line of customers in front of it.

The Doctor stepped into the queue and let his attention wander across the block to a tour bus parked beside the curb.

“I never get tired of this.” The thick accent drew his gaze back to the companion at his side.

“Fancy a tour?” The Doctor asked as they stepped up to order.

“Aye,” Jamie nodded vigorously. “That would be nice.”

“What’ll it be gents?” Asked an elderly man behind the counter.

“Fish and chips.” The Doctor said, fishing out a handful of paper bills from his pocket. “Here, hold on to this in case of an emergency.”

His companion accepted half the pile and stuffed it in his jacket pocket while The Doctor paid for their meals. Then together they crossed the street and lined up two seats with the help of his psychic paper.

After everything Jamie had seen in his time the little bit of paper apparently ranked up there right with aliens invading Earth. The Doctor let him play with it while they ate on a park bench beside the bus.

“An’ now what does it say?” Jamie held it up for him to see.

“Doesn’t work for me.” The Doctor explained, choosing to not mention the level of intelligence the target needed to have in order to read it.

Jamie scowled and looked at it. “Says ‘ere I’m the Prime Minister and I’m…” He blushed.

The Doctor couldn’t help but grin. “It’ll relay everything on your mind at the time it imprints so it’s best to keep it short and simple.”

“Aye, I will remember that.” Jamie ducked his head with embarrassment and ate a few more chips.

One of the tour guides stepped up to them, a young woman with frizzy brown hair she had pulled back in a pony tail. “Sirs we’re about to leave, I suggest you board before we leave you behind.”

They both stood and tossed their carton trays into a bin behind the bench.

With a melodramatic wave of his arm The Doctor directed Jamie to the front steps of the double deck bus and helped him climb in.

“Oi, wait!” The frantic cry caught The Doctor’s attention and he stopped short of getting on. A ways down the sidewalk young Mickey Smith stood waving like a complete idiot.

The Doctor rolled his eyes. It’d been less than a week since he left the man on Earth and barely an hour since returning and yet somehow Mickey had managed to track him down.

The Doctor met him halfway down the block just managing to hide the annoyance Mickey’s sudden appearance had brought to the surface. He had wanted a pleasant uneventful day after all.

“Mickey Smith.” The Doctor gave him a calculating look. “For what do I owe the honor?”

Mickey for his part looked lost between relief and his own sort of annoyance. “You won’t believe the luck I’ve been having since I got back.”

The Doctor thought of asking why he would care but kept his face neutral and continued listening.

“It took forever to find a job. I must have gone through about twenty interviews before I got hired, but you see the thing is,” Mickey leaned closer and lowered his voice. “I’m pretty sure my bosses are aliens.”

“Noooo.” The Doctor said with mock surprise.

His sarcasm went unnoticed as Mickey continued. “Yeah sure as the day is long they’re all aliens. I was gonna call Jack but he’s back in Cardiff and so I was out here trying to strategize when I saw your Tardis.”

“Okay, okay.” The Doctor held both arms up in a move to silence him. It worked remarkably well. He might not have had the most impressive relationship with Mickey Smith, but they had been through enough together for The Doctor to trust his instincts.

“I’ll come check it out, alright?” The Doctor gave him an exasperated look. “You just caught me at a bad time is all.”

“Yeah, a tour bus?” Mickey smirked at what must have been quite the amusing scenario for him. “Sorry but I think you just missed it.”

The Doctor spun on his heels just in time to see the large vehicle pull out into traffic.

“Oh nonononono!” He grabbed his hair out of frustration and turned back to Mickey. “Please tell me you have a car.”

Mickey gave him a look of utter confusion. “No, I don’t. I’m on lunch break. I went for a walk.”

The Doctor groaned and turned back to watch the bus disappear around the next intersection.

“Don’t worry Doctor,” Mickey spoke as if he was addressing an upset child. “Another’ll come around in an hour or so.”

The Doctor watched the street for another minute and then sighed. Jamie might have been a 18th century guy in a 21st century time but it was certainly not his first trip. Hopefully he would enjoy the tour and make his way back to meet him at the Tardis.

The Doctor heaved a sigh and gave a sharp nod to present company. “Alright Mickey Smith, lead the way.”
