I have never more wanted to live in a dry climate than I do now.

Thursday morning we woke up to 4 + inches of water in the basement.  Over the entire basement floor.  My carpet was literally floating.  Long story short, it was $1500 to get all of the water and sludge out of there.  And there are still dryers and dehumidifyers down there trying to dry the remaining water up.  AND it smells musty.

On top of that, the water and sludge ruined my hot water heater, so I'm currently having a new one put in.  That's another $900.  (It's a compact water heater, hence the inflated price).

I have to get new carpet.  I'm not sure if the couch will dry out sufficiently.  All of my bookshelves are water damaged.  The new door that we put in between the family room and the laundry room needs to be replaced.  The wall between the two rooms needs to be replaced.  And any book that was on a bottom shelf had to be thrown away.  :(  Some of them were brand new hardbacks that I hadn't gotten to yet.

At least I had the forethought to keep all of my computer equipment off of the floor.  I lost a box of paper and some discs, but that part could have been much worse.

I have to cut my trip to North Carolina short because of this - we're coming home right after the graduation instead of hanging out until Sunday.  I've got to make sure I get working on the clean-up.  Ug.

Oh, and want to hear the kicker?  My homeowners insurance doesn't cover water damage.  So this is all out of my pocket.  fabulous.
