Yeah - basically a Kane and Lynch review popped up on the site, and it was like 5/10. Then it mysteriously disappeared, to be replaced with a 8 or 9/10. This was the same time the site was *covered* in adverts for the game. The dude who wrote it got fired, also.
I did the same for Space Marine - I got mine for £25 in Game. It is easily worth that much, and would have been okay with buying it full price - it is a good game. Best multiplayer I've done since Quake 3 (although I know you don't play online).
I've not finished the single player yet, but it is great. The game does a good job of making you feel like a metric-fuck-load of futuristic death. The ground shakes every time you combat roll. The weapons are all satisfying, if somewhat different from the 40K canon.
There are a few changes to canon - these things bother me, but not enough to upset my enjoyment of the game. E.g. You character has no company markings, plasma and melta weapons don't work like they are described in the setting, characters curse machines instead of praying to the machine spirits, etc.
I'm just such a big geek for the 40K setting, I notice these things. ;p
Plus point - Mark Strong does the voice!
If you're on a budget, you should check out Kill Team. It is the "prequel" game on Xbox Live Arcade. It is an arcade style Space Marine game. One stick to move, one to shoot, job. I love it.
Yeah, Space Marine does look pretty groovy. The new Deus Ex looks cool too. Hopefully a bit better than the last one.
Sadly I don't have xbox live arcade though. Tried to get the stupid machine on the interwebz once, but it was having none of it. Don't know if it was faulty, or if my wireless modem was faulty, or if I was just doing the set up wrong, or what.
