Long time no post :)
First stop on the trip was a day in HK. I ran up and down the hills of HK and bought all the stuff i knew i could only get here. That first night Christine and me flew to Guilin.
Next morning (Friday) we got up at 6 am to get on a van to drive us to a boat to Lijiang River. The river is v. shallow because its been v. dry so we were only able to take the big boat a short way. Then we drove to Yangshou where we stayed for three days.
On day one in Yangshuo we took a small boat ride down the Meeting Dragons river. Saw some amazing mountains. Also visited two villages one Liugong is 500 y.o. with mostly older buildings, roosters, chickens and pigs all around. They do get electricity, no running water and we did see one satellite dish (go figure). We then took the boat to another village called Fuli town which is known for its pained fans.
Day two in Yangshuo was a bike ride out of the city to the bamboo raft ride down Lijiang River. Then a bike ride to Moon mountain. Some strawberry picking and a crazy bike ride back to the city to beat the rain(which never happened).
Highlights included Beer fish a local specialty which was to die for, and another Yangshuo specialty which is lotus seeds custard of sweet scented Osmethus (local tree/flower) that one was super disgusting :) I should also mention the 1.5 hr foot and body massage which we did both days which cost about $12
That's it for china so far, you can find some pics on flickr:
