Kairi has already changed out of her school clothes, opting for something more comfortable and beach friendly - shorts and a tank-top. Her uniform is hanging neatly in her bedroom closet.
She watches him dig the hole with a soft smile playing on her lips. He does this every year - this minor act of rebellion. She knows he's been anticipating this moment since the first day of school. For him, this is better than his birthday. She'd never dream of denying him this.
She walks softly across the sand and sits down to the left of the hole.
"You're welcome." she says, pleased with his reaction.
If asked, she wouldn't be able to tell you exactly why she felt the urge to go digging through the box of old toys under her bed, before she left the house... But she did. And she's glad she did.
Riku's laughs are relatively rare - and as such, are treasured.
She considers this for a moment, then shakes her head.
"No, that's your job. I'm supposed to be the level-headed one." she says, brushing aside a few stray strands of hair that have fallen in front on her eyes.
"I'm only defiant when it really matters..."
She's not quite sure when that'll be, just yet. But someday. When it's important.

He offers her a grin, and stops digging for a moment, waving at her with a rather mud-covered hand.
"Better be careful," he says, "Or you'll get your clothes all dirty."
Riku's teasing. He knows she doesn't care one bit about that.

She reaches into a pocket and pulls out a small plastic spade - the kind small children play with - and holds it out to him.
"I thought you might need this..." she motions with her free hand toward the hole.
Reply
He accepts the shovel.
"Thanks."

"Wanna help me do the honours?" he asks.

"Sure," she says, with a smile. "Why not?"
She's sure that neither of them is particularly surprised when she reaches for his shoes and carefully - almost reverently - places them in hole.

"If I didn't know better, I'd suggest you put yours in as well."
But there's really no chance she even has them.

The shoes in question are back in the bushes, at the egde of the beach.
"Just because I don't like wearing them, doesn't mean I want to put them in a hole in the ground..." she says, laughing.

He dumps the jacket on top of the shoes.

At least, it matters to -him-. And that was good enough... right?

She pokes him in the forehead.
Right now she's displaying a very Sora-like attitude.

But hey. Who can be mature when they're poked in the forehead?
Reply
After all, even the slightly more mature one is allowed to be immature sometimes.
