“EH?! So now you’re going out with someone from an orphanage?!” Akira yelled at Yukiko. “What about Yama-chan?!”
Yukiko sighed. “Like I’ve said, we broke up.”
“Why?” Akira rebutted. “Because you were adopted?”
“Akira!” Yukiko chided. “You know better than anyone to NOT touch on that topic.” Yukiko pretended to feel hurt, but Akira knew better.
“Stop acting Yukiko. You know I’m asking you a serious question here!” Akira blocked Yukiko’s path. “I’ve heard it from Nii-chan already. Why were you the one initiating the breakup?”
“Why can’t it be me?” Yukiko retaliated. “My feelings for Ryo-chan are… gone.” Yukiko hesitated before saying out the last word before walking past Akira.
Akira groaned. “Yukiko~ come back and explain it to me~” She whined as she chased after her friend.
---
“I hate this atmosphere.” Chinen whispered to his cousin.
“You think I like it?” Yuto, who overheard their conversation, butted in.
“But the two of them are eating as if…” Akira, together with the two boys looked up and saw Yukiko and Ryosuke eating their food silently, as if nothing had happened.
“Yukiko?” Yuto called cautiously.
“Hmm?” She replied without even looking up at him as she continued to eat her bento.
“Yama-chan?” Chinen called too.
“Hmm?” Ryosuke replied his friend with the same reactions as Yukiko.
Akira clicked her tongue in frustration as the two guys sitting next to her flashed her a desperate look. Just when she was about to open her mouth, Ryosuke put his down his bento and stood up.
“Yuki-chan, can we talk?” He asked without looking at her.
The other three who were just staring at them were taken aback by Ryosuke’s actions, but now their attention isn’t on Ryosuke, but on Yukiko’s reply.
After taking a deep breath, Yukiko nodded and followed Ryosuke out of the classroom quietly.
Seeing the two disappear out of the classroom, Chinen nudged Akira. “Now what are we going to do? Those two might start fighting and-”
“I KNOW!” Akira hollered at her older cousin. “But what do you want me to do?”
“Spy on them.” Yuto suggested.
Akira gave Yuto the death glare. “Spy on them? Who? Me?”
Yuto nodded.
“Why does it have to be me?” Akira whined, and then she nudged her cousin. “Nii-chan, you do it.”
“EH?!” Chinen gasped. “Why must it be me?!”
Akira gave him a bitter smile. “That’s because number one, you’re small so you’re hard to spot. Number two, you’re cute. Number three, even if you get caught, Yama-chan wouldn’t scold you. You’re the perfect candidate!”
Chinen stared at his cousin in confusion. “Wait, what does cute got to do with-”
“I DON’T CARE! JUST GO SPY ON THEM!” Akira shoved Chinen out of the classroom. “And don’t come back until you’ve got some information.” She yelled and slammed the classroom door shut in Chinen’s face.
Yuto, who was standing at the side, couldn’t believe the heartlessness in his friend.
“Akira, don’t you think you’re a little harsh on-”
“Do you want to go with him?” Akira shot him a glare. “If no, then stick to my arrangement and stop arguing with me.” She sniggered before heading back to her seat.
“I’m glad I’m not your cousin.” Yuto raised both his hands in defeat as he walked back to his seat.
---
“What do you want to talk about?” Yukiko asked as she made herself comfortable on the school’s roof.
Noticing that Ryosuke is not going to move, Yukiko frowned as she patted the empty area on her right. “Aren’t you going to sit?”
Ryosuke chuckled and took the empty area next to her. “I’m so sorry for leaving you alone that time. I was just-”
“It’s fine.” Yukiko assured him. “But if you were the one who initiated the breakup, I would do more than just that to you. I would probably land a punch on that beautiful face of yours.” She joked.
Ryosuke laughed along. “You know I do not hit girls.”
“So you hit guys?” Yukiko stared at him incredulously.
“NO!” Ryosuke corrected her.
Yukiko smirked. “I’ve seen every single side of you, so saying that you don’t hit guys, I can’t believe you.”
“Fine!” Ryosuke confessed. “Maybe one?” He glanced over at Yukiko and saw her giving him the look. “Or two…”
“Ryo-chan…”
“Fine! Those that gets on my nerves.” Ryosuke confessed.
“And that is…”
“20?”
“I knew it!” Yukiko smirked. “But back to the topic. You didn’t call me up here just to apologise right?”
Ryosuke puffed up his cheeks. “Since we’re no longer couples, I was just wondering if we can still be friends.”
Yukiko stared at his face even though she knew that he is reluctant to face her. Quietly, Yukiko wrapped her arms around Ryosuke shoulder and gave him warm hug.
“Yuki-chan…” Ryosuke was taken aback by her actions.
“Aww~ Ryo-chan, you know we can still be friends. No matter what happens, you will always be my friend!” Yukiko smiled gently. “I’ll continue being your friend even if you don’t want to be mine.”
“Yuki-chan…” Ryosuke beamed as he hugged her back. “I bet you’re going out with the Kanata boy aren’t you?”
Hearing Kanata’s name, Yukiko released Ryosuke and went back to her area. “How did you know?” She asked, half pouting.
Ryosuke chuckled at her cuteness before putting on a serious expression.
“Yuki-chan, remember that day when that Kanata guy said that he would try taking you away from me?”
Yukiko nodded. Of course she could remember. That was the first time she saw Ryosuke flaring at her.
“After that, he asked me to leave. But do you know something Yuki-chan? Just after I stepped out of that orphanage, I was so worried that I’ll really lose you. My heart was thumping non-stop!” Ryosuke pouted in front of her as he pointed to his heart while looking at her with the eyes like a three year old.
“Stop it Ryo-chan! You know I can’t resist that look of yours.” Yukiko complimented as she pinched his cheeks again. “But you should stop flirting with me, I’m already taken.” She grinned at him cheekily before standing up.
Ryosuke frowned. “Yuki-chan! Are you planning to make me regret letting you go?” He pouted as she helped him up.
Yukiko giggled. “Then why don’t you hurry and get a girlfriend so that you can boast about her in front of me?”
“Easy for you to say, but where on earth am I going to get a girlfriend?” He asked unhappily. “Girlfriends don’t just pop up from the ground whenever I want one you know!”
Hearing his weird example, Yukiko burst into laughter. “What did you say? Pop out from the ground? Oh my god! Ryo-chan! How could you use such examples?” She continued laughing while observing the change in his facial expression
“Ah… Stop pouting Ryo-chan! Continue doing it and I’ll soon be immune to it.” She joked. “By the way, you can try going out with Shida-san, I think she’s into you.” Yukiko suggested before walking off.
“Huh?” Ryosuke stared at Yukiko. “What do you mean?” Ryosuke yelled out before chasing after her.
