A TRIANGULAR LOVE: CHAPTER 3

“Ryo-chan, it’s such a pity you didn’t come last week! You HAVE to come today ne? I’ll let you meet Mia-chan. She is such a sweet girl!”

A week had past. Ever since the class came back from the orphanage, all Yukiko talked about during her free time is the orphanage and nothing else. Today, she was planning to revisit the orphanage again with Ryosuke, who unfortunately couldn’t make it the last time.

“Yuki-chan, calm down!” Ryosuke grabbed both of the girl’s arms. “I will go with you today so stop going on and on about Mia-chan.”

Yukiko stuck out her tongue cutely. “Gomen, but do you know-”

“WE KNOW ALL ABOUT MIA-CHAN ALREADY!” Akira, Chinen and Yuto exclaimed together as they covered their ears.

Yukiko pouted and Ryosuke laughed as he wrapped his arms around his girlfriend protectively.

---

“Mia-chan!”

“YUKIKO NEE-CHAN!!!” Little Mia was playing with the other children but when she heard her name being called, she turned around and her huge watery eyes widened, then she ran up to hug Yukiko’s legs.

“Yukiko nee-chan, Mia missed you.” Mia looked up at Yukiko and grinned.

Yukiko giggled and picked Mia up as she made her way into the house. “Nee-chan missed Mia-chan too. Is Mia-chan a good girl when I’m not around?”

Mia nodded and clapped her hands excitedly. “Mia is a good girl! So did Yukiko nee-chan bring sweets for Mia?”

Yukiko smiled at Mia’s cuteness. She placed Mia onto a sofa in the living room and sat next to her.

“I did. Here, it’s with that onii-chan.” Yukiko pointed to Ryosuke, who had followed them into the house quietly and had settled down on the armchair opposite of their seat.

Mia immediately hopped off her chair and placed both her hand on her tummy. “Hello onii-chan!” She greeted and did a slight bow before climbing back onto the chair next to Yuriko.

“Did I do well?” Mia turned to Yukiko, who nodded satisfactorily.

“Ryo-chan, bring the sweets over.” Yukiko asked and Ryosuke handed the bags of sweets to Yukiko, who gave it to Mia.

“Now Mia-chan, you are to share these sweets with everyone ne? You can’t just eat it all by yourself, understand?”

Mia nodded and ran out of the orphanage with the huge bag of sweets, squealing.

“So that’s Mia-chan…”Ryosuke went over to Yukiko’s side as the little figure disappeared outside the house. “She’s cute.”

Yukiko nodded.

“Ano, Ryo-chan, why don’t you play with the kids for awhile, I need to use the washroom.” Yukiko smiled and excused herself before running upstairs.

“KANATA-KUN! I’M HERE!” Yukiko barged into the room and exclaimed.

“Eh?” She looked around. The room was neat and tidy, but no one is around. Eh… He’s not here…

“YOU!” The sudden voice frightened Yukiko, who jumped and spun around.

“What are you doing in my room?” Kanata asked as he slurped the cup noodle in his hand and walked in nonchalantly. “You sounded like you’ve just won a grand prize.”

“I came, like I promised.” Yukiko announced.

“So?” Kanata asked as he picked up a new manga.

“I didn’t the children false hope.”

“So?” He asked again, not even looking at her.

“So?! I’ve jut proved to you that I’m not the person you think I- WOAH!”

A manga flew past her, just missing her face by an inch. She turned to her source of the flying manga to find Kanata glaring at her.

“I don’t judge people just because they kept one promise. When my parents first brought me here, they promised they’ll come back for me, and they did. They kept their promise till they brought me here for the 5th time. They promised they’ll come for me but they never did. So what makes you think I’ll trust you just because you kept your promise once?” He scoffed. “Now, before I kick you out, SCRAM and NEVER come back!” He pointed to the door.

Yukiko stared at Kanata in disbelief. “FINE!” She yelled. “You are such a weirdo! You keep telling me not to give false hope to these children so I came back. Now you’re asking me to never come back! Aren’t you the one giving these children false hope? You’re weird!” She let out her accumulated anger on him before storming out of his room and went downstairs, where Ryosuke was waiting for her patiently.

“Yuki-chan, what’s wrong?” He heard her footsteps from behind and stood up.

“Iie, betsuni.” She huffed. “Ryo-chan, I just remembered that nii-chan wants me back soon. So let’s tell Mia-chan we’re leaving.” She smiled and went out of the house.

“Mia-chan, we’re leaving.” Yukiko went up to the girl and kissed her cheek.

“Eh… so fast? But Mia hasn’t finished giving out the sweets.” The little girl pouted.

Ryosuke chuckled. “Gomen Mia-chan, demo, nee-chan still got things to do. I’ll stay with you ne?”

Yukiko gasped. “Ryo-chan, you want to stay? But-”

“Daijoubu. I got nothing on so I don’t mind staying with the kids a little longer. It’s to make up for missing last week’s trip.” Ryosuke smiled and pecked her on the lips. “Now run along. Call me when you reach home.”

Yukiko blushed. “Thanks Ryo-chan,” she pecked him on the cheek in return. “I’ll be going now. Bye Mia-chan! Bye Ryo-chan!” She waved to the two before running out of the orphanage.

Mia tugged Ryosuke’s pants. “Ne nii-chan, you like nee-chan ne? You kissed her…” She teased.

Ryosuke chuckled and bent down to Mia’s height. “Mia-chan, you’ll understand when you grow up ne?” He stood up. “Now let’s get those sweets distributed.” He suggested and went around the orphanage with Mia, completely unaware that Kanata was watching them from the window on the 2nd storey.

---

“Bye bye Mia-chan!” Ryosuke waved to the girl, who waved excitedly back to him before running back into the orphanage.

“Mia-chan, come up here.” Kanata, who was standing in front of the staircase on the 2nd storey, called out to her.

“Hai~” The little girl sang and ran up the stairs.

“Mia,” Kanata led the girl into his room and allowed her to sit on his bed. “Who was that onii-chan you were waving to just now?” He asked, sitting beside her.

“Ah, nii-chan?” Mia seemed surprised that Kanata would ask her about Ryosuke, so she scanned around the room secretively, like a detective observing her surroundings.

She leaned in and cupped her little palm to his ear. “I’ll tell you Kanata nii-chan,” she whispered very softly into his ear. “That nii-chan is Yukiko nee-chan’s husband. They kissed in front of me.” She giggled before putting on a serious expression. “But you must never tell anyone ne?” She placed her index finger against her lips, and seconds later, she burst into a fit of giggles, completely unaware that Kanata was deep in thoughts.

“MIA! KANATA! Come down for dinner now!” A lady yelled from downstairs.

“HAI!” Kanata replied and turned to Mia. “Let’s go downstairs ne? We shouldn’t let the others wait too long.” Kanata stood up and carried the little girl downstairs.
