oh my goodness this brought fresh tears to my eyes. the idea that he took part of jack away, to be forever with him. the fact that he watched as all fragmentary parts that had been his lovers body was blown into the air, to land upon the grass, the foliage , and the trees that had once been the instance of their beginning. the coyotes song to lull him to sleep, while the black crow took vigil over the scene. this was so beautiful. it has now become a part of the soul of their love story. thank you so much......janice

meh... I think your ashes-spreading chapter is better than mine! Certainly a lot more descriptive.

And "I'm plantin trees here" a little spritz of humor that lightens the desperately sad moment of Ennis fulfilling Jack's wishes. There is no happy way to write that scene!

Thought I'd replied to your comment already - sorry it's so late!

That "planting trees" flashback will come up again, but much, much later.

Eventually the earth would compassionately cover the bones, long before his own were brought up here. Jack had become part of the mountain in a way, and one day he would too.

Beautiful.

What I also truly loved was Ennis saving a bit of Jack''s ashes into his coffee can.

Thank you, indeed one to treasure
