Recs for March through May (SGA, SPN, Star Wars)
I'm busily adding more recs to the SGA pages on my site, and there might be a SPN one popping up soon. March through May was filled with kink and cliche challenges and Thirteen challenges, so I was not so much with the reccing. *g*
Stargate: Atlantis
Your Inevitable Unhappy Ending by helenish, SGA. I was prepared to like this story when Ronon hit his head on a locker, but then the rest was great too. Pleasing. Very pleasing.
Some fantastic Rodney/Girl!John/Ronon from astolat: But Some Things Never Stop Being Funny, set during/around? my 'It Stops Being Funny at Skirts'.
seperis wrote another section of Kid!John! This was supposed to be--puddlejumpers! And possibly a ferris wheel if Jenn got super ambitious. But because she is so very cool and terrifying--it--has a plot! And it's never going to end, not ever. And I am supposed to write a section but now I'm like, but--this is all serious! I'm just supposed to be the girl who writes about freak bunnies and all the team members giving John the sex talk! And John doesn't want to be John anymore and I'm supposed to write about the *birds and the bees* talk?!
Yes. There are internal quandaries. *bites nails and fidgets* Teacher's Pet, section nine is here.
Recovery by ltlj, (the *first!* eeeee!) sequel to Retrograde (linked in that post as well). Rec for Retrograde can be found here. The sequel is just as amazing as the original story; and it's reading stuff like this that is going to make me buy S9 of SG-1 eventually because Cameron is just that cool.
Parsus by scribblinlenore. And this, my people, is why you loan out brand new SGA DVDs, because sometimes, you just win. Banter! Athosian festival! I--haven't had time to read it fully yet (exams, school sucking soul out, blah, blah and more blah) but it is Lenore writing SGA. Most pleasing.
Supernatural:
janissa11 has rescued me though, by posting the newest section of her crack SPN story, Under a Haystack, wherein Dean is regressed into a child.
“Help!” the kid shrieks, kicking and flailing his arms and catching Sam another whack on the face, this one on his chin. “Help, he kidnapped me!”
Sam claps his hand over the kid’s mouth, and the kid bites him.
Aww. *ruffles his hair*
But my favorite story of hers is the torturous Brothers and Strangers, wherein Dean finds out he is not a Winchester, sells the Impala (God, I actually almost cried), and well, other stuff that I shall not ruin for you.
*Fun* stories. Sure, some dark moments and trauma, but--entertaining.
Star Wars:
Every now and again, I go through phases where I devour everything in sight of a random fandom I previously had no interest whatsoever in.
This year, the happy new fandom this year is Star Wars, specifically Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. (I used to think that people who found Qui-Gon sexy were messed up in the head, because seriously, Anakin was where the action was at. How wrong I was. I can admit when I am wrong.) rageprufrock has dutifully linked to the good, the bad, and the "Just Drop Out of College and Give Up on Humanity".
One of the good ones, Lost in Translation by helenish was adorable, yet, it bothered me for one reason: You see, I'm in the process of writing my highwaymiles fic, and if I'd had *her* idea, I could have mindwiped John or Rodney into being a sex slave and done all the cute things she did in this story, and I'd have a *kick-ass story* on my hands, but no, no, she had to go and write it. I could have had:
"It's practically mistreatment, a slave like that."
"Meaning?"
"He needs it; it's one thing that you can't get it up, but do you really need to make him unhappy, too?"
Obi-Wan clenched and unclenched his fists, then pinned the man against the wall and said, levelly, "If you touch him again, I'll kill you."
