Sanctuary ficlet: Pizza

He's not sure what changed.
They went out for dinner every Saturday night, each week a journey into culinary ethnicity with a different type of food. The first time they did this, they found themselves mindlessly wandering New City until they stumbled upon an Italian restaurant whose divine aromas won their stomachs over in a heartbeat. The week following was Chinese at this place he found online, the week after an Indian restaurant deep into the belly of Old City where word of mouth from a friend was the only way she knew how to navigate her way. During their culinary journey, they indulged in everything from American to Thai to Greek food until, eventually, the cycle took them back to Italian.
"Pizza?" he'd suggested, and from there they found themselves at a quaint little pizzeria on the far side of town, bustling with Saturday night locals who looked like they frequented the place often.
They took a seat in the corner and ordered their specific poisons.
He'd watched her with chopsticks and long Lo mein noodles, nibble lamb off of a skewer, clean her palette with crackers between taste testing fine wine, and stain her upper-lip with red curry and butter chicken, but there was something about the way she licked her fingers clean of tomato sauce and stubbornly refused the supreme house specialty in place of veggie-loaded flat bread crap that made her so remarkably... hot.
Again, he's not sure what changed.
Wasn't it just his luck for her to catch him staring, too. He cleared his throat and dropped his gaze and peered down at his meaty, cheesy mountain of goodness, pretty sure his cheeks were the color of the tomato sauce itself.
"Will?" she asked quietly, smiling curiously at him with a quirked brow.
He conveniently shoved a huge piece of meaty, cheesy goodness into his mouth, shrugging and gesturing towards his face with the universal 'mouth full' sign language.
She rolled her eyes. Typical.
