This show can still do no wrong in my eyes. Michelle Ryan was brilliant and kinda sexy in that outfit (even if she did steal Gwen's jacket, grumblegrumble) and I warmed to the character almost immediately. One of my favourite moments was when the Doctor told her off for being a thief and then told her he'd stolen the TARDIS. Other moments included:
CHRISTINA: You look human.
DOCTOR: You look Time Lord.
The Doctor's 'I will get you home' speech. The lighting was fucking brilliant in that scene. I was sitting there thinking: the number of icons/wallpapers/graphics that are gonna come out of that shot...
Captain Mgumbo! Good to see her again, even if she did want to leave the Doctor stranded. I was sad though - they changed the UNIT music! I loved the UNIT music, why is it different now?
Despite liking both lead characters immensely, I did not care to ship them. I was very pleased when initially Christina says "We make no sort of couple, thank you very much." but inevitably she ends up snogging him anyway. *rolls eyes*
I'm very apprehensive re. the comments in the Doctor Who Confidential about this episode being Ten's "last chance to just have fun" or words to that effect. Are the next few episodes going to be all angst for him then? While I love Ten!angst, I don't want the last few episodes with him in to be depressing as all get out. I'd rather he died in the middle of a hyper ramble about starfish or something.
I actually did find those stingray things genuinely scary. Not so much when they were attacking and eating the Tritovores; the Reapers will always have the monopoly on the swoop-and-swallow-whole trick in my opinion, but when they were swarming across the desert, teeth bared, metal skeletons thrashing - that was really quite intimidating. Even more so because they don't really have a strategy that you can sit and talk to them about like with Daleks or Cybermen. They're just devouring because it's the only thing they know how to do.
I did like Malcolm, he was very brave and endearing and reassuringly rubbish at everything, except for when it actually mattered. The 'I love you' thing was a tad OTT though. Brought a stupid grin to my face nonetheless.
The thing that keeps on amazing me about this show is how completely different each episode is. The Christmas Special had a much more grandiose feel compared to this one, which was at its heart about survival and the fun that can be had along the way. Every episode has its own little world. I love it dearly.
Then I watched Top Gear, Red Dwarf (thanks Loz, I found the eps on YT!), Starsky and Hutch, Lewis and Top of the Cops. Anyone would think I'm a 40-year-old bloke with the shows I watch. :P
....Revision? What revision?
