One of the my coworkers got robbed. Apparently it's been a reoccurring problem. He says the thieves usually take nothing of importance, but this time they took his wallet. He's not angry, but not happy either, simply inconvenienced. Does it come from the fact that he was raised Buddhist? Does he have a profound appreciation of what he does have? Or is it just plain ridiculous to be unconcerned with the fact that his wallet was stolen? The last few days I've been thinking about this point of view. I have few worldly possessions that I truly care about. I have some items I'd prefer not to lose, but I'd get over there loss and move on. I'd either replace them or just live without them. Few items, for example, my mother's wedding ring - I'd rather not lose that, but even that ultimately is something I could get over the loss of. Is that something I don't want to lose, or is it just something that sparks a memory that I don't want to lose?
