Stupid quiz for ya now

See, I'm kinda dumb*, so this was the smartest thing I could come up with to-evening. You're welcome to laugh at me.

It's the old worn-out quiz: "Which are the 3 top... X".

So my question to you is this. Which are the 3 things you love the most about your respective society, and which are the 3 things you hate the most?

I'll ask those who choose to ( Read more... )

Which are the 3 things you love the most about your respective society, and which are the 3 things you hate the most?

This being the UK

Teh good

1) Our approach to gay rights. It's still far from perfect, but considering we went from 'never speak about it, does not exist' to legalising civil unions, gay adoption and now a strong push for proper gay marriage in about 20 years... well, its a damn good step.

2) Being very hard to panic. Am I the only person who thinks that the 'Keep Calms and Carry On posters were completely irrelevant? You're English! Those words are printed on your soul.

3) Multiculturalism. The only real problem with multiculturalism is that the benefits tend to be taken for granted and the downsides are way too obvious. Still I'll take my rows with the fundie muslim dickpigs in exchange for that lovely Napalese restaurant near my mum's place.

Teh not-so good

1) Ex-colonial. For fuck's sake Ex-colonial. We are not running the world and haven't for three-quarters of a century! And it was pretty shitty back then too if you forget. We're a tiny island in a world of big monsters (China, India, US, Russia) and we need all the help we can get! So stop antagonising the EU and behaving as though the rest of the world gives a shit about us cause they DON'T.

2) Religion. Better than most but the nasty little bastards as making inroads again. Fire the bishops, secularise the schools, and for fuck's sake get the Pope off the air.

3) We don't panic enough. Come on people! Unless you wants your health service to be gutted even worse than Thatcher, you schools run by mouth-breathers and your jobs gone (No Cameron, the private industry is not going to come in, they're too busy being given blowjobs in China) then we should have been marching back in September! Move you sloths!

Yep. This is the place I know, and love alright !

The only other thing I would add is that 'religion' in Britain usually means either Catholic ( a foriegn import) or the C of E (aka 'the Tory party at prayer'), or 'Nonconformist'. Although I suppose that there are so many British citizens these days who can identify as Sihk or Moslem or something else that this will not apply for much longer.

The Quakers, the Salvation Army, Traidcraft, Methodists, Weslyans, Make Poverty History, William Wilberforce and the Abolition Movement, Oxfam - they were all made in Britain, and all had a background in religious movements or even were religious movements in their own right.

Religion, over here, is not just about banning gays and abortions. It is also about tolerance and caring for the less fortunate.

My experience is people queue everywhere. Britian is not different.
