All politics aside this is funny. Very funny! Just listen to it, laugh, then you can point out how it's entrapment and whatever else.

Enjoy.

Edit: This clearly shows ACORN is a corrupt organization that should not be allowed any government money.

whatever. My best friend's 2 year old daughter showed up as having lead poisoning this past year--turns out the house they'd bought had a lead paint exterior. This is a friend who is a school teacher, her husband owns a shop. They saved up for this house, which is in a low income area. When they found out it was covered in toxic paint that was peeling off, dropping into the dirt and coming inside, into their daughter even...ACORN came out and repainted the whole damn house. For free.

I'm so over the smear campaign against this organization. It's a huge nationwide organization; I have no doubt in a group that size that one can find individual instances of behavior one doesn't agree with, some that one might even find out and out wrong. Overall though, what this group does--things like helping people buy homes and stay out of foreclosure, make sure they are safe to live, fight for living wages, paid sick time, and better public education in low income areas--this does not piss me off to the same degree as say, an entire financial industry based on given out loans to people who can't afford them, bundling and reselling them at a profit, and crashing the entire American and global financial markets.

really--perspective.

Obama didn't work for ACORN. The Republican party decided to start a smear campaign against them during the last election based on the actions of some folks hired by ACORN to assist with voter registration. The fellas collecting registrations were paid by the number of registrations collected, so some wrote in false registrations (for Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and the like)--the Republicans screamed voter fraud. But, mostly, ya know, this is a group that is politically organizing and activating primarily within low income and communities of color. Much of the Republican animosity towards ACORN bears more than just a whiff of racism, pretty openly.

I worked for Burger King one summer, hence I am totally responsible not only for their corporate policies, but the actions of every other employee!

They cried wolf about ACORN one too many times. Every time I looked into it, there was no substance there, just broad supposition without substance. I just can't get riled up about this group without widespread evidence of systematic corruption.

No, I'm at work. I will look into the accusation later today, but my first instinct tells me that this is another GOTCHA moment from a group who has tried to systematically smear the names of good people. I sincerely doubt this reflects a systematic practice across the entire organization, nor do I think that this evidence would be dismissed by higher-ups in the food chain and let stand.

Are there civil or criminal charges relating to this situation or is this just unfounded accusations floating around?

So your arguement is; ignore the evil they are willing to do because they have dome so much good? Okay. I respect that. Painting a house beats willing to help smuggle underage children for a prostitution ring.

You're right. I looked it up. He didn't work for them. They worked for him.

"we have invited Obama to our leadership training sessions to run the session on power every year, and, as a result, many of our newly developing leaders got to know him before he ever ran for office. Thus it was natural for many of us to be active volunteers in his first campaign for STate Senate and then his failed bid for U.S. Congress in 1996. By the time he ran for U.S. Senate, we were old friends."

So if he trained and instructed them.... nah that'd be over reaching.

Um, no. You posted a couple of links without giving much context, and the links themselves were a mess to wade through. If ACORN were actually involved in anyway in smuggling underage prostitutes into the country as some 25 year old with a video camera appears to claim, I would say--investigate, arrest, charge and try those responsible. But honestly--I have my doubts that this is really a practice ACORN is engaging in (and really, if this fellow has all this evidence, why doesn't he take it to the police? Why aren't there arrests being made?).

This is not an either/or situation, where "(p)ainting a house beats willing to help smuggle underage children for a prostitution ring." Clearly underage prostitution is not one of the organization's purposes; if individuals associated with the organization where in any way involved with such activities, it would be criminal behavior and should be treated as such. It would not negate all the good work they do, but certainly would tarnish their reputation.

But I've yet to see any of the claims made against ACORN turn out to be more than smear campaigns.

He ran a yearly training session so ACORN is now his Sekrit Army?

"It was a "Jump to Conclusions" mat. You see, it would be this mat that you would put on the floor... and would have different CONCLUSIONS written on it that you could JUMP TO."

It is so freaking weird that while I was taking a nap today, I was thinking of random icon ideas for livejournal, and one I thought of was 'Ozomba' and looks what shows up?!
