Some of my mother's family are IRA folk. Serious IRA folk. Folk imprisoned and interned, or fled to the US to work for Noraid. And some are farmers, or teachers or doctors or politicians of a different stripe.

The head of my father's family sat in the House of Lords until the HoL amendment act. Some of my father's family supported Moseley.

That makes me a security risk to all sides really. Good job I'm not running for any sort of office. Mind you, I effectively recused myself by, amongst other things, inhaling. :)

[edit to make my point more clearly...so it's not just about me. ]

If Ms Abedin chose to go into politics and has various connections with family who have a more extremist view than her, I would just mention that there is historical precedent. Apparently, we are always being told that the American Civil war pitted brother against brother. But it's all right for Americans to have families with differing opinions... but not for some other people. I'd say there was something more than conspiracy theory going on here. But I would, wouldn't I?
