This I can confirm. I've become somewhat maniacal lately about doing bike tours around our local cultural sights of interest, and many of them are Orthodox Christian monasteries. Well, you could find a whole shopping street in front of virtually every monastery around here. People are selling all sorts of stuff right at the doorsteps of the temple, using the opportunity that the large number of visitors provides them with.
