Iran aiding their Shia proxy Iraq, how very unpredictable ;)

Iran will be the geopolitical overlord of all of Southwest and Central Asia

Provided that Saudi Arabia and Pakistan suddenly disappear from reality, that is.

Iran's certainly going to do its best to make that happen, at least in military terms.

I wonder what it cost to train them?

Because billions of dollars bought us soldiers who abandoned their weapons.

What precise benefit did the overthrow of Mr. Hussein get the United States again?

We improved their oil infrastructure and started trading it on the petrodollar. Notice the south wasn't going up in flames?

No, I wasn't aware. I knew there were refineries and ports in Basra, but I didn't know where the reserves were located. I presumed it was closer to the south though, since its often said they just need to poke a hole in the ground and route it to a ship. I knew that some of the oil sabotage that happened during our occupation was in Basra, so I presumed the rest.

The whole reason the British Empire merged three Ottoman vilayets into Iraq is that Mosul's oil needed Basra's port. That the Kurds are sitting on the best oil fields is the real reason why no Iraq capable of sustaining itself will ever allow a Kurdistan.
