Hello all. With a brief intro, I would like to state that this is my first post to the community and while I enjoy your many political posts I'm unsure if my first one qualifies to your heavy hitting, sometimes International topics. Well, speaking from experience, guilty or innocent, I don't think anyone is ever the same after having had a search warrant executed at their home in their presence. Not speaking from experience, I imagine analogies can be drawn between this and other far more horrific actual crimes executed upon a person. So, you have to give law enforcement that much, anyway - the prevention of those far more horrific actual crimes.

That much said, however, I find it unfortunate the way these search warrant executions are often carried out. It seems, given the presumption of innocence, that there could be a lot more sensitivity to this fact and that such actions could be taken with this precept in mind. Nevertheless, there is of course always a real and present danger to the officers themselves, so perhaps that much can be overlooked or forgiven.

What needs not be overlooked or forgiven, however, in your particular case, is the bit where (if it happened exactly as you say) the officers took advantage of their position to terrorize your brother for what I can only assume were their own cheap thrills. It's unfortunate, so I am sorry about that for you and him. This, though, I suspect is just a typical and likely prevalent symptom of the personality type attracted to the profession.

In such situations, never talk to enforcement is the only safe and sensible policy.

Good luck in the legal procedures. Unless one cops to a plea, these things always take forever - a couple years at least. My advice is for all of you to just go forward, including applying for jobs, etc., for it is only going to be lost time. They already own a part of you, now, but no need to allow them to own all of you.

This. And I'm very sorry that you and your family had to go through this kind of traumatic experience. I wish y'all the best moving forward.
