G'day, navel-gazing Americentrics curious folks who do occasionally read the international news! Now look at this. It does look scary, doesn't it? Looks like a shitty political thriller movie, doesn't it? Well, except it's all over the news these days. (Well, don't know about your news, anyway).

It does look very fishy. A politician of this magnitude, with so much influence and such power, so feared and so controversial, must be having a bunch of hi-tech super-badass gorillas around him at all times. And yet, here's a clumsy guy who doesn't know how to handle a gun, walking for 30 seconds toward him, with no one to stop him? I'm not sure I'm buying it, either.

Looks like someone's been trying to stir ethnic tensions and exploit them. Are elections approaching in your place, by any chance?

There's always a next election lurking behind the corner. And we're gonna have 4 consecutive years with public voting now. The closest one isn't exactly an election, though. It's a referendum about building a new nuclear power station (long story: foreign interests involved there).

Enough for him to subject himself to such sort of treatment, I'd wager. After all, in the world of professional boxing there are so many matches with orchestrated outcome, where the loser voluntarily submits themselves to some thorough beating for a good share of the income. ;)

There are mass brawls in the Ukrainian parliament on an almost daily basis; I hope political assassinations (or attempts thereof) won't become the norm in Bulgaria.

Can't twist my soul. I'd have mourned our democracy, but I wouldn't have mourned the man.
