It's you who is missing the point.

You perceive people like McFaul as something fundamentally not accessible and you do not even try to contact them even when they are wrong. Furthermore you expect other people to behave just like you or otherwise you recommend them to go therapy.

I use different approach. I regularly contact various people in high positions and sometimes something good is happening. For example once I contacted the editor of an important Russian magazine ( http://newtimes.ru ), she liked me and I wrote 40 articles for her http://newtimes.ru/authors/detail/469/ (by the way, this editor knows US Ambassador personally). On another occasion I contacted a private investor and eventually became the founder of a startup company that was financed by Intel ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C_Level_Design ). There were articles referring to me in LA Times and in EE Times and on every single occasion it started from a random contact through the internet or socializing.

You don't need to be humble. You are going to miss opportunities if you behave in a humble way. People like McFaul are the same as you. And he is certainly not the last word on the mentality of Russian people so he can learn something valuable from people like me. If he cannot learn from Russian people like me he is doomed to fail - he will constantly preach to his choir and get very surprised discovering it does not work.

No, I don't perceive that. But I do know that there are proper channels to access officials in any business or government.

No, I recognize your behavior as being narcissistic and recommend that you in particular seek help for it. And frankly, your response here is also a clear indicator of it.

Okay, seriously. Here's my recommendation. Cut the personal stuff right now before you've hurt yourself. Your very next move might crack that thin ice you're standing on.
