Here's a good link with a breakdown of the lyrics.
And the lyrics are what this is all about.

The first two verses, by Immortal Technique and by Killer Mike are good, but not what I want to discuss. It's the third verse, by Brother Ali, an albino Muslim-American from Minnesota.

Also Megadeth.

And Bob Marley of course.

Let's not forget Fela Kuti.

The list could get really long :)

Serj Tankian comes to mind, although at times he's a bit pompous.

Don't know if the official vid will embed, so here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CxKA1uETxE

Also he's got a new one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQtRXqBQETA

Pretty impressive stuff, even if you only measure it from a musical standpoint.

The song is titled Civil War, not the artist.

What defines this as propaganda? Can you get me necessary and sufficient conditions for something to be considered such?

We're discussing music as a tool for propagating political messages, views, ideas throughout society. Music is often used for that. Hell, I live in a country where music, specifically political music, was often the only solace for the masses at times of severe state oppression and blatant disregard for human rights. It was their only outlet, they gained courage and coherence through protest songs with strong political messages in them (and they still do today). So that was propaganda, definitely. For a good cause.

I can remove the tag if you insist, just say so. IMO it's appropriate, but that's your call.
