Many self-appointed defenders of capitalism seem to be embracing an ethical philosophy of finger-pointing.  With one of these fingers, they point to a government that overspends, over-regulates and under-delivers.  With another, they point to the supposed failure of large numbers of individual citizens to demonstrate adequate drive or to ( Read more... )

I prefer to think of it as the Spoiled Kid syndrome. There is zero accountability in American corporate governance. So what do we expect? We really think the kid with the cookie jar and a golden parachute has any sense of responsibility for anything? They're goddamn titans of industry, don't you know, they're are in themselves, the incarnation of a higher moral essence and good that justifies its own existence.

I tend to think of it as 1989. De-regulation: S&L implodes. De-regulation: F&F implodes. De-regulation: what next?

Here's the fun part: we live in a political atmosphere where the Right touts its achievements and participation in the "Reagan Revolution", and the era of deregulation, and the triumph of free market ideology, and then they turn around and act like it never happened.

So which is it? A revolution? A new era? Or what?

Your association of "Reaganism" with a free market ideology is a frequently made mischaracterization that merely muddies the water.

The treasure troughs of the titans descend from the skies, like manna from heaven, whom God has rightfully appointed unto his chosen servants, and they shall spend and divest this money as they see fit, since the money comes from Heaven, and not any sort of market or anything, and without them we would lose our heavenly connection and have no manna, and we shall raise up our voices and cry out, "Obama! Why have you taken us to this awful place?"

There are schools of thought which tell you precisely of what your monsters are the product but you won't listen. You're willing to stone the baker for the advent of Frankenstein's monster while the baron himself sits up in his castle creating more of them.
