These videos, I think, display quite clearly why we need to stop caring about money and begin/return to caring about human beings ( Read more... )

Shouldn't one of our first questions be why these leaders allow their constituents to live this way?

Is it so different for the homeless in America eating out of garbage cans?

We have government and non-profit entities helping the homeless... to a degree. In the film, it looks like they're on their own except for the farmer's help.

Not everybody wants there to be govt aid for the homeless.
Non-profits are great, but there are still homeless eating our of garbage cans. Do you think they do that cause they prefer it to getting a govt meal?

"Not everybody wants there to be govt aid for the homeless."

Agreed. It's inefficient.

"Non-profits are great, but there are still homeless eating our of garbage cans."

Before we stop caring about money... lets make giving to non-profits as cool as American Idol.

"Do you think they do that cause they prefer it to getting a govt meal?"

They do it for any number of reasons. Some would do it, I'm sure, to avoid being seen taking a hand out. Some do it because their functionality doesn't allow them to mesh with the help available to them. Others slip through the loose net of services available in their area.

so you wanna focus on the symptoms and not the disease?

you don't see the problem that it *even gets* to such a point? we shouldn't need to be discussing this. the problem has gotten out of control and now we suggest band-aids and snake-oil/placebo to stop the underlying problem.

Also, I will regret this, but just why is govt aid for the homeless inefficient?

"so you wanna focus on the symptoms and not the disease?"

That's what I have within my grasp, yeah. Doctors treat disease. I buy the Band-aids.

"Also, I will regret this, but just why is govt aid for the homeless inefficient?"

The government burns more light bulbs to accomplish what they do... as compared to a non-profit.

I never had that kinda... money... for school.

"that's so circular i don't know where to start when explaining it's silliness"

Not at all. The government runs the money through levels of bureaucracy (IRS, Congress, Treasury... who knows what else) that a non-profit with a single purpose just doesn't have to pay for.

The doctor thing was a metaphor. You don't need a degree from some school to be a metaphorical doctor. To help heal the human soul. To end the diseases of racism or sexism or classism, we don't need to go to a school. And we certainly don't need to pay lots of money, either.

Gotcha... but I'm saying I'm not the one with the juice to make things happen at the top. The blood transfusion you're looking for sounds top level.

Ever tried to build a pyramid from the top down?

Some things must be done from the ground up.
