Guardian Angels

According to Wiki, a group calling themselves ' the Guardian Angels' has been active in the USA since 1979.

Trained to make citizens arrests, they started in NYC and spread to other States and eventually , all around the world. In the UK , however, they were accused of acting like ' vigilantes', in spite of the fact that they were totally compliant with UK law.

For the record, in the UK a citizen is allowed to arrest someone who is committing or is about to commit an arrestable offence. One is also allowed to use ' reasonable force' in order to detain and then hand over the offender to the Civil Power - in most cases, the cops.

But, of course, the cops do not like people muscling in on their turf. Every Angel who walks the street or rides the tube is taking work away from the cops and therefore is a threat to the top cops power base.

But the country belongs to it's citizens. If cops cannot be recruited, trained and deployed in sufficient numbers everywhere at once, then it's time that honest citizens were allowed to step up to the crease and bat.

The guardian Anglas prevent crime in two ways- first, by being there as a visible deterrent to muggers and such, but more importantly, they provide a useful role model to young males in steering them away from the gangs and the gang culture that is sweeping through society.

And there is nothing to stop 30, 40 and even 50 year olds joining the GAs.

I think its high time that the UK Press got off their high horses, stopped the mud slinging and got behind the Citizens of this country and campaigned to see to it that every major city and town had its own GA chapter.
The Rioting in London may be over, but the sexual assaults on women , the muggings and the petty vandalism of public and private property continues to blight our capital. it's time the Government looked at mobilising Cameron's ' Big Society' for real.
