In which comic books in the USA become clearly anti-Semitic:

As some may know, there's a whole furor in San Francisco over penises. This may seem unsurprising given that it is San Francisco, except that in this case the furor is over circumcision. A man named Hess has been advocating banning circumcision of men, which is opposed by both Jews and Muslims in the city. As well it should be, for such a ban is a ( Read more... )

The next place they are taking this is to (the people's republic of) Santa Monica. These are 2 of the 3 most liberal bastians in Calif (why did they skip Berkley?).
Since this forum is mostly inhabited by liberals of all stripes, my query is this: Is anti circumcision to be the next great liberal cause?

There's always been overtones to liberalism of anti-religion. This appears to be the latest spasm of it. I think, too, though, that California is not necessarily as liberal as everyone says it is. It's the state of Berkley to be sure, but Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger are also Californians.

Sorry, did you mean to suggest that the govenator was conservative?

I meant that he's a Right-Winger. Not all Right-Wingers are conservatives any more than all conservatives are Right-Wingers (the obvious example of non-Right-Wing conservatives are the guys behind the Soviet 1991 coup. They were diehard Leftists but also reactionaries).

I'm liberal and think it's so insanely stupid. But I'm very pro circumcision, so there you have it. P.S. Penn and Teller (libertarians with major ties to the Cato Institute) are very anti-circumcision too, so this isn't nearly as a predictable as a liberal versus conservative issue, as you've asked.

It really doesn't seem to be. I started doing a little (very little given my abilities on google) research, it's actually been around quite a while.
Given that (as far as I can tell) SF and SM are the first places to actually try and pass laws; I don't think my query was out of line.

The debate about circumcision? Sure who said that's not been around? It's been around for decades. You asked if anti circumcision laws are the next great "liberal" cause, and I gave you two (albeit) limited examples that show, no-- it's not a liberal/conservative issue (in the sense it's easy to predict if a liberal is for circumcision or against it). Never mind liberal NYC and its health dept RECOMMEND circumcision (maybe you missed that thread) along with the CDC as a method for HIV infection prevention.

Perhaps you missed my point, no obviously you did.

No I didn't miss that thread. I have been in THAT discussion before, I can tell you that a conservative suggesting such a thing, is trying to force religion on people. I'm glad to see NYC recommend the procedure.

By the way, I accepted your limited examples and pretty much agreed with you, what is the problem??

So for some reason we both got a bit testy, for no real reason, so we are still good for now? :D

Not really. I'd like to see it a less common practice in general.

Considering the different people arguing for and against, I agree it won't.

On one hand all the reading I did on it it seems the benefits out weigh the negatives; on the other, if it's true, what they say, considering the pleasure I've gotten being without that extra bit, then all I can say is wow.
