Thoughts for a Thursday

Noodly vid talk ahead. Feel free to skip.

I don't know if I've mentioned it yet, but I'm not really watching Smallville anymore. I'm like a vulture, though, waiting for each new episode torrent to come out, to see what fresh visual material they have provided me with. I'm going through this phase (we can call it laziness) where I only want to work with Season 5 episodes. The Clex vid I'm currently working on is pure Season 5, and I have one more that I want to be pure Season 5: The "I'm Your Villain" vid that I started months ago. Yes, faithful readers, I am still very much inclined to make that vid. I'm waiting for the season to end, so I know exactly what shots I have on my palette.

Is that lame of me, to think of vidding in terms of painting? It's not that I think that I'm some great artist or anything, but that's just one metaphor I use when I'm vidding. The clips are all the different colors on my palette and I dab them on the timeline, using transitions to smudge the edges when needed. The way I vid is also similar to the way I used to write term papers. I would gather all of my research, pick out the passages that I thought were pertinent, throw them into a Word document willy-nilly, and then shuffle them around and write transitions around the quotes. I was never one for outlines and planning. I followed where the research led me. That's how I vid. I have a vague idea or emotion I want to convey, and then I see what happens when I throw clips onto the timeline.

This is all to say that my mind is very muddled right now when it comes to the latest vid. I'm still in the "throw it up there and see what sticks" phase. And as always happens when times get tough, I have a million ideas for other vids I'd rather be doing right now. For example, I have recently re-discovered Barbara Cohen. Has anyone ever heard of her? Anyway, I can't believe I had forgotten just how gorgeous and emotion-drenched her voice is. Gah! One song in particular is giving me epic-Clex-doomed-love vid bunnies. Oh, and the strange thing is that another one of her songs has given me Supernatural Wincest vid bunnies. I've never seen a single episode or read a single fic!!! Such is my jumbled brain. Even though I haven't watched any Supernatural, I still signed up to go to winchestercon in October. Mainly because it's in Nashville, and because it sounds like sooooo much fun. I don't want to be left out. I figure I can watch all of Season 1 by October. Maybe even make a little vid for the con. Hehe. I'm so ambitious. I should finish the vid I'm working on before making any more grandiose plans. :)
