We went to see Sherlock Holmes part deux yesterday, and it was quite the rollicking good time. Apparently there was a crying baby in the theater while we were there, but I didn't even notice, I was that engrossed in the film. It's very over-the-top, and there's a faint whiff of trying-too-hard about the whole thing, but it's a lot funnier than I remember the first one being, and as everyone has already remarked, they turned the slash dial up to ELEVEN. This is grade-A crack, people, fan pandering at its best. Hurt comfort fans are particularly well-served here: there are several scenes that will make your hearts go pitter-pat. I am now heading over the Holmes/Watson communities to await the deluge of fic. Please don't disappoint me, fandom!

A lot of people on my friendslists have been talking about Nikita for a while, but I did not get around to watching it until a couple of weeks ago. I had been dragging my feet about it because the CW's marketing for it (the tagline Looks Can Kill with a semi-naked Nikita draped sexily on a chair) turned me off very badly. In addition, a couple of the vids I'd seen for it made it look grim, and I was afraid it would be a downer to watch. Well, I just finished season one, and all my doubts proved for naught--I really, truly loved it. While bad stuff does happen, it is leavened by the AMAZINGNESS that is Nikita. She's such a great protagonist, a hero who appeals to the same part of me that loved Clark Kent with a passion. The acting is suprisingly stellar considering this is a CW show, and Maggie Q does a fantastic job of making Nikita both an utter badass and a sympathetic, relatable character. Nikita has a dark past full of emotional pain (Maggie Q gives amazing teary eyes), but she does not let it paralyze her. She fights back and tries to make up for the harm she has done. She's kinda like Batman, only more awesome because even though she has had her heart broken, she's still courageous enough to reach out to people; she hasn't closed herself off to love. How can I not adore a character like that?

Plus, this show has finally provided me with the pairing for a femmeslash vid I've been wanting to make for quite some time. I've been hoarding this song for years, and there was never a pairing that was quite right for the tone of it, but Nikita/Alex are absolutely perfect. They're both so damaged, so strong, and so in love with each other!! I'm tempted to go on a YouTube binge and seek out the tons of vids that must surely exist of them, but I'm resisting because I don't want to jinx myself, and if I see a vid that is too similar to what I have planned, my idea will die a quick death.
