A/N: Ok. So here's the thing. There is barely any SEMPAI LOVE around here! I am incapable of giving the kick in the butt that Arashi fans received but I had to do something. Everyone has got to realize the awesomeness that is V6!
-------------------------------------------------------
“You know, we gotta do all we can before Leader dies of old age.”
“Leader’s practically got one foot in his grave!”
No one could deny that there was a large age gap in V6. While Sakamoto was creeping closer and closer to 40, Okada had yet to turn 30. People joked about the generation gap often, as did the members themselves.
But really, the ones who pointed out Sakamoto’s age them most were Miyake and Sakamoto himself.
When the group leader started to notice he felt something for the younger member, he made an even bigger effort to remind himself that Ken was 7 years younger than him. He denied his feelings for almost a year before realizing that they weren’t going anywhere. If anything, they’d just gotten stronger.
About halfway through the second year, Inohara figured it out, teasing their leader lightly, but Sakamoto felt extremely embarrassed. He asked the younger man not to say anything, but sure enough, Nagano also knew by the next time they saw each other. He really shouldn’t have had any hope in Inohara keeping anything from Nagano in the first place.
They never said anything outright in front of any of the Kamisen members, but would laugh sometimes when he and Ken would hang out.
Morita nudged Junichi one day, pointing at the younger Tonisen members. “Do they seem to be acting weird to you?”
With a serious look on his face, the youngest member watched them too. “Nagano and Inohara laughing at something on their own… Nope. They seem normal to me.”
“Hmm… I suppose. They must have a secret together ne?”
And this is how the rumor about Inocchi and Nagano began. Unfortunately for Nagano and Inohara, they actually did have a secret, but had been trying to keep their relationship quiet. Luckily for Morita, it was never traced back to him.
Through the poking and teasing, Sakamoto tried to act as he always had towards Ken. So when Ken asked him to take him out for dinner, he did, just as any good sempai would for his kouhai. The older man didn’t noticed the look of amusement Morita was giving Ken as his friend blushed.
.oO@Oo.
“Urusai yo!”
Morita just continued to laugh. “Are you going to tell him?”
Ken bit his lip. “I don’t wanna ruin out friendship. Besides, he doesn’t see me that way.”
.oO@Oo.
“Oi. Why did I have to pay for dinner?”
Ken laughed and rolled his eyes. “Because you’re older. The old should treat the young!”
The “old” man stared at him, but couldn’t keep the smile off of his face. “But you asked me to dinner.”
“No, no, no. I asked you to take me out,” he clarified. He could hear Sakamoto mutter something along the lines of being tricked. Ken smiled. “Old people are easily tricked.”
Sakamoto paused and looked at the younger man. “If I’m so old, why do you hang out with me?”
The question seemed to catch the younger man off-guard. “I-well- I…” He clamped his mouth down into a pout.
Sakamoto’s serious look broke into a smile.
.oO@Oo.
“You didn’t tell him,” Morita said flatly.
Miyake shook his head.
“Ken didn’t tell who what?” Inohara asked plopping down onto the couch next to where Ken was reading a magazine… upside down.
“Nothing Inohara,” the youngest of the three replied, continuing to pretend-reading the latest issue of Wink Up.
Morita rolled his eyes. “Ken likes Sakamoto but refuses to tell him.”
Inohara’s smile was huge as Ken threw the magazine at Go’s head. “Ne, ne, ne! Why not?”
A little resigned, he said, “Because he’s old. He wouldn’t want a kid like me.”
He actually felt sorry for him and patted him on the back. “Don’t worry about that, but if you really like him, you should tell him.”
.oO@Oo.
He was still grinning like an idiot when he found Nagano and Sakamoto in the Tonisen dressing room. Dropped behind Nagano’s chair and rested his chin on the group’s mother hen. “Guess what~!”
Sakamoto looked at his friend warily. “Do I want to?!
“Of course you do. It’s information related to Ken-chan,” he said as Nagano leaned back into him.
“…Like what…”
“He seems to be very stressed out because of you. Appears that he likes you a lot but thinks you see him only as a kid.”
“He is a kid,” Sakamoto replied automatically.
“Actually,” Nagano corrected. “He was a kid. Ken-kun’s been a man for quite some time now.”
Turning this over in his head for a bit, he mumbled that he’d be on the roof for some fresh air.
.oO@Oo.
Ken found him stretched out on one of the benches on the roof, eyes closed. He took a deep breath and reached out to wake up the sleeping man. When Sakamoto grumbled a little, Ken only said, “Old men need to take naps in the middle of the day ne?”
He grumbled some more, but did not sit up, letting Ken move his head so he could sit down. His head now in the younger man’s lap, he yawned. “I was just thinking.”
Miyake laughed. “Sure you were. Who would have thought that Leader’s thinking spot would be on the top of a tall building?”
“That has fencing all the way around it and a bench in the center,” he fired back.
They sat just like that for a while, Ken, for once not knowing what to say and Sakamoto’s thoughts jumbled into a lump. His mind was torn between what Inohara had said earlier and the way the younger man was currently fingering his hair.
Finally, Sakamoto asked the question that had been bothering him from the day he’d realized his feelings for Ken. “Do you really think I’m too old for you?”
Ken froze. “W-what?”
“Is seven years too big of an age gap for you to consider?”
Ken was so confused. Was he asking about a dating age gap? Seriously? Did that mean Sakamoto knew? When? HOW?! Had he given it away? Of course he would later realize that he knew the answer to that was Inohara. But if he knew, and he wasn’t grossed out or running away, did that mean that he might feel the same?
He took a deep breath. “How long have you known?”
“That you like me? This afternoon,” he said softly, still not opening his eyes. “That I like you? Almost 2 years.”
Ken whacked him on the head. “Why the hell didn’t you say anything?!”
The older man finally opened his eyes. “I enjoy our friendship. I didn’t want to make things weird. If we were to have a relationship, I wanted to make sure it lasted longer than just a week. I was waiting for you to grow up a little bit.”
Ken rolled his eyes. “While you get older and older. Great plan Leader,” he said sarcastically.
“Urusee na!”
.oO@Oo.
“It’s about freaking time!” Inohara whispered. Nagano was smiling happily that his friend had finally found happiness while Junichi and Morita tried to see past Inohara’s head.
“Inohara! Move your head!” the dancer said, pushing the other’s head to the side.
.oO@Oo,
“They’re so noisy,” Sakamoto muttered.
Ken smiled. “They think they’re being sneaky. Well. At least Inohara and Go do.”
They could hear Inohara and Morita start arguing and took it as a good time to get up and sneak around their band mates. Ken tackled Morita while Sakamoto went into Leader-mode.
“What are you doing? How old do you think you are? Sneaking around here like a Junior…”
Junichi laughed while Nagano continued to smile fondly over all of them.
Yes, there is a large age gap in V6, and it does get brought up often, but in so many ways, there isn’t a gap between the 6 of them at all.
Sakamoto and Ken smiled at each other.
