Drabble in response to the fact that Matori and Kusumoto were all over each other at the December 15 BBV concert, but have since then been no where near each other on stage.
Takes place backstage after the December 15th concert.
..........................................
Matori sees Ota heading his way and immediately does an about face, hurrying in the opposite direction. Not quick enough though, because he feels a hand on his shoulder much sooner than he'd have liked.
Damn Ota and his long legs. "Matori..."
Taking a deep breath, Matori turns with a smile on his face. "Ota! What can I do for you?"
Ota gives him a look showing just how impressed he is, before grabbing Matori's arm and dragging him to the side where there are less people milling around. Now that they're as alone as they're gonna get backstage, Ota says, "You're pushing it."
Matori starts to say that he has no idea what Ota's talking about, but stops. That would be insulting to both of them. "Okay... I may have gone a little too far today."
Ota crosses his arms. "Matori... you put your hands on his hips and went down on your knees, seconds before the lights went out."
"I wasn't going to do anything." Probably. Ota had hauled Kusumoto off before he could find out for sure.
"And the other time?"
"Okay, wait. That was an accident," Matori says, defending himself. He and Kusumoto had been standing next to each other during Romantic, arms over each other's shoulders. "I was reaching for the far side of Yukito's hip and--"
"Was short by 15 centimeters?" Ota finishes, eyebrow raised.
"Well? Yeah." He really hadn't meant to frontally grope Kusumoto on stage. Ota lets out a heavy sigh. "Look. I'll try to be more careful."
"Matori... don't try. BE more careful."
They stand there quietly for a moment before Ota continues. "I like our unit, you know? As crazy as it is. Things changed a lot this year... and I'd rather not lose anyone else in the near future."
People come and go, that's the life of a Junior, but knowing that doesn't make it any easier. Ota's not mad, but worried, and now Matori feels bad.
"It might be better if you and Kusumoto stay away from each other on stage," Ota says, so quietly that Matori almost misses it.
"What?"
"You guys aren't thinking properly out there. You used to keep it in check, back when Kusumoto had no idea that he liked you, but now that you're together..." Ota trails off and looks to the side.
Awkward silence falls between them, until Matori says, "Yeah... Okay. I'll talk to him about it." But then he grins, never one for awkward silences. "After Yukito and I finish what we started."
Ota stares. "Wow, was that unnecessary."
The grin on Matori's face widens as he pushes up closer to Ota and leans in. "What? You don't want to hear about how I'm going to hold Yukito down and--"
Ota shoves, hard. "Okay, yeah. You definitely need to shut up now," he says before stomping off.
Matori watches him go, but waits until Ota's out of sight before letting the grin slip from his face. Stay away from Yukito on stage? Easier said than done.
