how old are most of the kids?
because I'm sure Talia would be happy with cheerios...
and other finger foods, and any food which can be eaten with the fingers....

hot dogs are always easy and a hit with any kids,
ice cream is a hit but a little messy.
(keep it easy for the Moms, because even if this isn't for Mother's day, you still don't want to make a lot of extra work for yourselves by cooking all day and making scary sh-t the kids won't want to eat anyway!)

Have fun!!

I think Talia's the youngest at 20 months, but she's a good eater so I'm not worried about her. Then we have kids ranging upwards to 13 yrs of age. Most of them are probably going to be fine with anything Chinese/Asian-ish, but hell, I don't mind sitting around eatin' chips and dip and guacamole either LOL ( ... )

LOL
so your relatives are probably like mine: they will read the lj if you supply the link, but they will never reply on it (prefering a private e-mail or a phone call instead)....

Hi Alice,

Sorry, I've been bad and never had a chance to e-mail everyone about using your live journal to communicate about the food for the reunion. Will do that today.

Alice I think that's too much too do. Just volunteer one item. I think you should use the grill and do the hamburgers. Each other Chiu girl will add something else. I'll add the chicken wings and legs to throw on the grill. Someone else can add the desert. That it must be scrumptious is a requirement. And I'll bet it will be either Easter or Susanna. I'd really love for Susanna to make something interesting too. Maybe get veggies for grilling like eggplants and portabella mushrooms?

Love Shirl

PS Really cute pic of Thalia

Okay, I'll do hamburgers.

I think for chicken, it'll probably be better to do wings/legs on the gas grill out in the backyard. Or just roast them in the oven. Linda, do you want to bother with the gas grill? The cast iron grilling is faster and easier to clean up. We can do hotdogs, too. Hey, Linda, how's the ventilation in your kitchen or Mom's? It gets pretty smoky otherwise.

So, how about some volunteers for salads, veggies and dessert?

FYI, Susanna is out of the country and she won't be back until the 9th or 10th I think, but she's not working so I'm sure she'll want to do something fun for the get-together.

Hey Alice,
Really great picture of Talia, she looks so delighted about something. Grill food is great! My two boys have the food allergies with peanuts, nuts and shellfish. They have discovered White Castle hamburgers for the first time last weekend and loved them so burgers are good as well as hot dogs. We'll bring dessert (may be just chocolate chip cookies, will there be ice cream? Messy but goood.

So, if I get lazy and bring a big bag of White Castle burgers, nobody will complain? LOL! I figured I'd make smallish burgers -- faster to cook and easier for little hands (or big mouths) to manage.

Any kind of cookies are welcome, Easter. Talia looooves chocolate in any form, but if she sees it, she will insist that it all belongs to her. Good to know about the food allergies, so we'll scratch off the peanut butter pie and the bbq shrimp . Ice cream sounds good too, hey Linda - you wanna handle the ice cream?

Miss Tallulah Binkyhead is ever so expressive (total drama queen!), but yes, she's having a ball discovering the weird and wonderful world around her. I got some beautiful flowers delivered here today (a gift from a client) and Talia was so delighted by them, really cute. Now if we can keep the cat from eating the flowers....

Some ideas for side dishes?
Potato salad
Corn somethin'
Tomatoes or fresh salsa
Guacamole
More veggies?

More, more, more, still I'm not satisfied! Er, just kidding.
