Though I didn't know what was happening on Sunday, I feel at least a small comfort that I was, at 2:45 Eastern on Sunday Sept 16th, listening to Lord of Chaos chapters 29 and 30, with my husband. This is the first time through the books for him, perhaps the only time for him.

We listened to most of the Shadow Rising on the drive to Pittsburgh in August, and started on The Fires of Heaven before we got here. He finished that book while I was at my classes. When he started the Lord of Chaos, I insisted that he wait to listen to chapters 29 through 37 with me, which is my favorite part of the book.

I am so proud of my husband for listening to these books. They may not be his favorite, but they have meant so much to me. The books changed my life. The communities formed around the Wheel of Time have largely shaped who I am today. I wouldn't be here in Pittsburgh learning to become a librarian if I hadn't read the Wheel of Time and discovered the Brown Ajah.

I've read and reread these books several times, and loved them every time. But listening to the books with my husband has given them a new life. Perhaps I am able to vicariously read it again for the first time, to see the books anew through his eyes.

We will miss the man who created that world. He had a talent for creating worlds and it was a very special gift to be able to share in it.

Thank you Robert Jordan.
