a equestrian journal entry
decided i would just post about some fun horseriding events, my current passion.
so, two sundays ago, and last sunday, went foxhunting(for those who dont know, its following a fox mounted on a horse and with a pack of hounds. since this is in the US, we dont kill the fox...its just an excuse for about 50 riders to tear through the country for about 4 hours) for the first time in many years. i had forgotten how much i enjoy it...well, most of the time. i bragged to my aunt nancy yesterday that i had never been thrown from a horse in the hunt field, and i must not have knocked on wood fast enough...cause as we were heading in, my mom, who leads the field, stopped suddenly, and since i was daydreaming, thinkin about girls, or the eternal mysteries, or how interesting that arrangement of trees looked, i went right over the front of my horse Brennan. didnt wound anything but my pride, even landed on my feet and didnt get all muddy.
okay, so i told my mom, who is one of the hunt masters, the first time i went out, that i wanted to ride in the slow, non jumping field because i wanted to take it easy my first time back. she said no, stay behind me in the 2nd field, the medium pace field, and dont go in the back. and we jumped about 20 medium sized jumps, and crossed some really nasty streams, and were only slightly slower that the first field. my mom would yeall at me at every jump, "just hold on", thank god she didnt include "you wennie", but i could infer it from the tone. but after a few good jumps i felt pretty good, so it was all okay...and jumping some good jumps makes you feel like you cheated death.
the second hunt was less eventful, though i got to go with the huntsman to see(and smell) a fox that had gone to the ground(hiding in its den), but besides being thrown off, and hitting a knee on a tree, it was very uneventful, cause all the foxes decided they didnt want to play.
well, enough for now...i am going to ease my tired aching body into another hot shower.
