Right, so, yeah, my night: it consisted of going to see a showing of Island at Magdalen Film Society of Oxford. And then, as if that weren't fabulous enough, there was a Q&A with director Brek Taylor afterwards. And, yes, she did mention Colin Morgan, though only briefly.
Colin Morgan is just amazing. His versatility as an actor is astounding, and the little nuances he manages to endow his character with in this film are entirely captivating. Honestly, though, even if he weren't in this movie, I'd still highly recommend it. The main character, Nikki Black, is the very epitome of messed up, but somehow, she comes off as sympathetic. And her relationship with Calum (Colin Morgan), while it kind of has you screaming, ah, no, don't do that, he's your brother, just makes so much sense given her background and the circumstances. Plus, as disturbing as it is, there's also something very beautiful about their interactions. Honestly, the characters make this film. And the ending--it killed me dead. It's absolutely gut-wrenching, but so good--kind of like the whole film in general. I'd without a doubt say this is one of the best films I've seen in a long while.
