Nice little intro!

“N-NO!  M-Mom!”

“-ey!  SAPHIR!” a white haired child shot up from his position in bed, lightly tinted red eyes frantic and small in the room’s waning light.  He was breathing hard, and puffs of air escaped into the air, suggesting the room was as cold, if not colder, than the tumultuous blizzard air outside.  He wiped the sweat off his face, with a shaking hand, sniffing and staring; shakily at his messy sheets at he did so.  He put his small fragile glasses on not wanting to look at the rooms other occupants.

A young boy of the same age walked over in dark blue cotton pajamas.  He straightened his glasses as he did, staring at the other boy with consternation.

“Ooooh looks like Saphir, had a itty witty bad dream again…” a bright blonde haired, brilliant blue eyed boy snickered as he too looked at Saphir, from his bed post across the room.

“S-SHUT UP, PEONY!” the blonde snickered as he deftly got off his bed and walked over to his friend, a light brown haired boy, who was now wiping his glasses clean on his night shirt.

“Honestly, Peony, if you’re going to make fun of someone at least go for some harder bait…” the boy mumbled leaning down and looking at Saphir with brown eyes adjusting his glasses every so often.  Peony laughed, rubbing the back of his head.

“Why you always helping him out Jade!  I-I wasn’t having a nightmare!  I was just…” Saphir stammered.

“Just what?” Jade asked glaring.

“Practicing for your role in that stupid awful play?” Peony asked tapping his chin.  Jade blinked.

“He actually got the part?” Peony shrugged at Jade’s question.

“Stop making fun of me!!!” Saphir wailed sniffing more now as his nose began to run, he flailed in his sheets, throwing what was accustomed to being called…a tantrum.

“WHAT’S ALL THIS NOISE YOU LITTLE CRETINS!” All three looked up, faces going a little blanch.

“P-Professor, my you’re looking lovely this mor- er…evening!” Peony stammered yanking Jade’s sleeve secretly, he nodded his head towards the window.  Both boys backed away as a furious red eyed, silver haired woman stomped into the room.

“Are you two picking on Saphir…AGAIN!” She shrieked.  Peony winced and Jade smiled, shrugging his shoulders with his arms out.

“I tried to stop Peony, professor...but he’s such a bother and…is well…is highly influential on me, as you can tell…I just couldn’t make him stop.”

“J-JADE!  How could you give away your best pal like that?!” Peony yelled, eyes trailing to a rather angry Gleda.

“Oh no…you’re not getting away this time, Jade Balfour!” she replied angrily.  Jade sighed.

“Oh well…I tried.” Peony stared, mouth agape.

“What exactly were you trying to do?!” he yelled pointing to Gelda.  “What happened to our escape plan?!” he then pointed to the window.  Jade pushed his glasses up his nose.

“It’s far too cold and don’t you mean your escape plan, I never agreed to such an absurd thing and besides…professor’s beatings don’t result in having to take our limbs off, unless she can cause massive internal bleeding and…”

“OKAY OKAY I GET IT!!” Peony yelled he gulped looking back at his teacher.  He saw the coming on of a massive, hurtful, beating…her eyebrow was arched and it twitched every few seconds.  I wonder if I can get out of this with telling her one of my rappig stories!  I know she adores those stories…it might…OHHH!  Rappigs don’t live in Keterburg!  I’m screwed!  I’ll just blame this on Jade he glared at Jade as he stood there calm, cool, and collected as the lashings of Nebilim’s “be nice to others” rant, went on.  He scowled and looked down at the hard wooden floor…and never speak with him EVER again!  Although…then I’ll have to talk to Saphir!  CURSE YOU JADE!  You make my head hurt…

“GAH!!!” He cried out, ruffling his hair.  Jade looked at him, a devilish smile on his face.

“I think your speech is hurting Peony’s ears, professor…” he replied coolly.

“DON’T GO PUTTING THINGS IN MY!!!”  She grabbed them both by the ear and yelping, only Peony yelped of course, she dragged them both out of the room.

“I’LL MAKE A LOT OF OTHER THINGS HURT TOO!” She yelled as she dragged them both down the hall.

Saphir sat there, wiping his eyes, the fragments of tears still trailing down his pristine young face.  He sighed, looking at the window and the snow falling gracefully outside.

“Saphir…are you alright?” he looked to the door, and there standing there was Nephry.  Jade’s sister.  She looked strikingly similar to him brown hair, slightly reddish brown eyes, and her composure made you shiver sometimes, but not for the wrong reasons.  He nodded.  She was the only one who was actually nice to him.  But why?

“You know…” he heard his bed creak as she sat down at the edge.

“They really do care about you, Saphir.” The young boy shook his head, frowning.

“No they don’t!  Especially STUPID PEONY!” Saphir yelled he hugged his knees to his chest and placed his chin on them a pout clearly visible on his face.  The girl just laughed.

“You three sure do act like brothers…”

“We’re not though!  And ever since Peony came, Jade doesn’t play with me anymore!” Saphir whined, his eyes getting watery again.  Nephry laughed her fluttery, wingless laugh.  He’d always pictured a leaf floating through the air when he heard that laugh.  It was neither harsh nor happy it just…was.  He never had a problem with it and any other given night he’d grumble if she’d laughed at him but…it felt exceptionally consoling tonight.

“Oh Saphir!  You know Jade could never replace you.  He’s just…trying to make everyone feel at ease here, you understand, don’t you?” She asked her eyes fixated on the white haired, long banged child’s face one partially long bang hung over the right side of his face, half covering it in a pleat of white, his glasses glinted in the fonon induced light.  Saphir nodded, pulling his blankets up around him.

“But why does he have to go and let Peony make fun of me for?” another pout.  Nephry sighed, reaching over and patting the disconcerted boy on the shoulder.

“No need to fret, dear Saphir.  Jade could never replace you, you’ve both been friends for the longest time, I’m sure Jade is just trying to get Peony accustomed to this lifestyle, he is the future emperor…you know.” Nephry smiled as Saphir crossed his arms, like a child.

She liked that about Saphir, he was always acting his age…unlike Jade, who far surpassed his time, even though he was only a child he acted more of a twenty year old rather then the supposed child he was.  Her eyes went to the floor just then as she thought of his expression when they heard the news of their parents passing away.  Not even a tear.  He just stood there, absorbing the information like a sponge, as if it was some sort of drug, some sort of unquenchable item that he needed to know more of.

“Nephry?  You okay?” she felt a light tender hand on her shoulder and she looked up, startled a bit.  Saphir pulled away and sat back down on his bed looking at his sheets, to her and back at his sheets again, in a constant rhythmic motion.  She nodded.

“OW OW OW!!!” She turned and Saphir looked up.  Two bodies appeared in the doorway, one limping and the other walking casually.

“Why didn’t professor do anything to yoooou!!!” Peony wailed, sniffling as he crawled into bed, one hand on his ear the other on his leg and stomach.  His blue eyes looked over at Nephry, a sly smile on his face.  She scowled, turning away from the young emperor to look at her brother.  Jade stood there silent.  The room seemed a bit bleak about now.  Peony snickered, now was his chance.

“Neppphrrry!  Come kiss my boo boos please!”  She turned to him fist and teeth clenched.

“STOP ASKING ME TO TAKE CARE OF WOUNDS YOU GOT YOURSELF!” She yelled, growling as she turned to a slightly shocked Saphir and smirking Jade.  Peony whimpered and, like a caterpillar, squirmed further underneath the blankets of his bed.

“You’ve been spending too much time with professor, Nephry!” he replied from the covers.  She smirked, a familiar trait she and her brother shared.  She flipped her brown hair and turned around, proceeding to walk out.

“Goodnight Jade, goodnight Saphir.  Oh.  And if they do anything to you again, just let me or professor know, okay?”

“No faiiir!  Professor doesn’t hurt Jade!” Peony murmured.

“That’s because I actually do things for her, unlike you…although you’d be great as a rappig rancher…though I can’t say much about gaining an education from it.  Ah well you’ll have plenty of servants at your command.”

“Jade’s a meanie…” Peony replied, not very seriously from the covers. “I’m going to bed!” he turned over on his side and Saphir giggled a bit.  He blinked as Jade walked over to his bedside and sat there.  The bed had the same creak as before, although, an entirely different atmosphere.

“J-Jade…I-I’m sorry.  Professor didn’t do anything, did she?” the other boy shook his head.  Jade leaned closer and whispered.

Don’t worry.  I’ll protect you as long as we’re friends, okay Saphir. Just promise me you’ll never leave my side, and I’ll protect you from those nightmares, okay?

“T-Thanks…Jade.” The white haired boy replied a blush appearing on his face, his small glasses on the edge of his nose.  Jade smiled, getting up and ruffling Saphir’s hair.  He laughed and went to the light switch, switching off the fonon induced lights and their artificial glow bathing the room in a comfortable deep blackness.  Saphir sighed, squirming under the warm blankets.  He used to be afraid of the dark…he used to be afraid of a lot of things in truth.  But.  With him here, and even the professor, he realized that he didn’t need to be afraid of his nightmares, or the dark.  He smiled contently as a voice from the darkness spoke up in a gentle tone.

“Night Saphir.” A pause.  And then he replied in the mixed silence of the howling wind outside to the pattering of hailstones against the windowpane.

“Night…Jade.”

This was his home, and even if he didn’t like it sometimes…he could never truly forget about it…not in a million years.
Hope ya'll like it! And yeah...I should go study now...
