Sorry, we should have been more clear. This is the Keterburg era, when they were children. That's why Dist was referred to as Saphir, and mentioned his parents. In other words, this is before the Nebilim Incident. Dist didn't exist until much later, most likely when he joined the Oracle Knights. Sorry for the misunderstanding!

In the past, Saphir was actually a whiny, crybaby of a child. He wasn't that arrogant yet, crying very easily and throwing a bit of a tantrum when things didn't go his way. It wasn't until he grew up that he started to get the attitude, perhaps around his academy years before being really solidified when he joined the Order of Lorelei.

As for Jade, the TotA novels actually show that Jade was exceedingly cold to Saphir - and everyone else for that matter. There's a scene where Jade displays the broken doll's head to Nephry and tells her that she killed it. He also used Saphir as bait for the guards so he can sneak in to see who 'the prince' was, used Saphir's backyard to store monster corpses, and even forced Saphir to work on the tunnel he had started to make in Saphir's backyard without asking. There was even a conversation between Saphir and Jade where Jade rather coldly told Saphir that he hadn't asked the boy to pick him up for school every day and that resulted in Saphir running off sobbing. There's even a scene where Jade is slowly killing a rat with his bare hands while having a conversation with Peony.

Novel aside, even the games talk about how cold he was, as Nephry mentions that he was a devil child and there's a skit about how Jade dunked the poor boy in the lake. There is an enormous amount of emphasis that Jade was a vicious child before Nebilim had died, but that her death had changed him.

So in actuality, Jade was very cold as a child.

A side note, I'm not really sure what Jade x Peony has to do with any of this. ^^; I guess that could be because I don't support it, and really don't see how it could even work. Sorry!

Aw, I wish I had those novels. -__-" I do understand that a lot of people put little Jade as a cold-hearted person and Dist as a whiner, but I never thought the whole thing was official. The information is very interesting, thank you! :DDD I take back whatever I said about the characters being off, then--I'm so very sorry. *smacks self* Argh, me, stop spouting stuff when you don't know anything. >: [

Oh, JadexPeony was...I don't know. xD I like their ADULT versions :DDDD Because I hate emo people like little Jade. :p If you think about the entire JadexPeony relationship, it's just...hilarious. I guess I just enjoyed the humour, and Peony more than Dist anyway. xD JadexPeony works TOO well in the game.

And I agree, I'm very happy that they grew up to be hot! It's actually kinda scary. Jade's older than Van, but he's twice as hot. Apparently Van didn't eat his vegetables as a child? ;)

I think I understand what you mean about Peony and Jade. The way they banter and interact... it's just so funny! Peony is one of the few (perhaps even only) people that can stand Jade's teasing and return it. Everyone else is either too afraid, too sensitive, or doesn't have the witty (and abrasive) personality necessary for it.

HOMG YES. I love JadexPeony. The first time you meet Peony, Peony was like, 'Ah, so you must be the ones dragging MY Jade all over the place AND KEEPING HIM AWAY FROM HOME.' I totally fainted at the sentence. xDDDD
