Title: Birth
Author/Artist:
sam_sam_samedi
Pairings/Characters: Van.
Prompt: Van - "The prophecy is this world bathed in blood."
Rating: T.
Warnings: Heavy themes and pyscho!rambling. Spoilers, of course. (And short. D: I apologize for that.)

Vandesdelca is not a man who blocks out memory-- it is there, a ghost to trail his footsteps, and leave them touched with a scent of honeysuckle and the heavy, old weight of names the world does not recall. The soft brush of sandy hair and her easy, sing-song voice linger below his stare as Hod glows a pale white, its buildings mangled like shattered bones. Yes, he thinks, Tear is her mother's mirror, but he can only remember a face caked in blood. Carnage is Lorelei's privilege; God can never die, after all. Without threat, there is no fear, and no preservation.

Yet he has seen true transience. Seen how the earth can scream, reverberate as it is torn in halves while man looks on. Their shock is a broken glory that only Vandesdelca knows, because he was the catalyst to wield god's power; it is a birthright that is his alone. Luke can cry out over a sea of dead bodies lined in sick maroon, but he is a mere shell of Lorelei and its shadowy contours of flame deep in the darkness of the Core. Vandesdelca will bring about Auldrant's revolution; he has seen its evil, and must recreate it in his own image. By virtue of the score-- of Hod dying as the sea wrapped it in its wide arms-- Vandesdelca was destined to lead. He is Yulia's heir, and he will put her to rest, as He forced her to act-- to give the score to a world that was nothing save for a human graveyard. This is history culminating; repeating; barreling towards its final act. This is rebirth, and thus death.

He will bring God to it's knees, and tear it limb from limb, until humanity is a blank canvas untainted by prophecy. And, from that infantile, waiting world, he will give birth to a new Auldrant.
