“Darn it!” exclaimed Luke. “My first mission and already I’ve ripped my favorite clothes!”

Tear sighed; even though Luke was getting better, he still worried over some of the most mundane things. “It can’t be helped. We have been traveling for a little while before settling in Gavada. Frankly, I’m surprised your clothes made it this far.”

They were in the Aelderwood, helping Harold take some samples of the miasma for her research purposes. Even though they all agreed that shutting down the Mana Lab was what was best for Gavada, Harold wanted to study its effects. Maybe she could create something fun with it.

But for now, Luke’s complaint seemed like the perfect opportunity...

“I can fix that for you,” she told the youth. “Or, rather, my Neo Outfit Generator will do it for me! It’s a flawless experiment, can grant you new clothes with just one touch.”

Tear eyed her suspiciously. This was Harold, after all, and Harold was often looking for an excuse to perform some type of experiment. Something told the Fonist that this device was probably not even tested, and Harold just wanted a guinea pig.

But at this time, all Luke was concerned about was fixing his clothes. “Fine! Just do it!”

‘He may be more tolerable than when we first came here,’ thought Tear, ‘But Luke still has a lot to learn about society. He doesn’t know much about people who try to con others.’

“Thanks for your help, boy. You won’t regret this,” stated Harold as she grabbed his arm and pulled him to the ground. Before Luke could yell at her to be more gentle, she took a strange device that resembled a metal box with lightning flowing from the end and thrust it into his arm.

Luke screamed loud enough to scare several of the local monsters into running away. Suddenly, the clothes on his back began to glow a pale, golden color...only to go up in flames a moment later. To Luke’s surprise, he wasn’t burned by the fire, it only felt slightly hot. The flames died down about a minute afterwords, revealing a strange, black wraparound robe with red edging around its billowed sleeves and hemline. Since the length of the robe was longer than Luke’s body was tall, the hemline dragged across the ground.

“There, as you can see your clothes are as good as new,” stated Harold.

Luke jumped to his feet. “But this wasn’t what I was wearing before!”

Harold explained, “You didn’t specifically say you wanted the same clothes. And I said you would get new clothes from this generator. The robe was chosen specifically because despite your swordsman appearance, you seem to give off a similar wavelength to your partner. I figured there’s a bit of a mage in you because of that, and felt you should dress accordingly.”

“But I don’t use Fonic Artes!” yelled Luke.

Before the argument could escalate, Tear shot a blast from her staff at the bushes. Out jumped an Elder Boar, its club bared and ready to fight. Harold ducked behind the duo, reminding them of their mission guideline to protect her.

“This thing should be easy!” exclaimed Luke, readying his sword. He dashed forward...only to trip over the hem of his robe.

Tear slapped her forehead; that outfit was even more useless than it was ridiculous. As Luke tried to get up and the Elder Boar was stunned by the mishap, Tear began singing a Fonic Hymn. Suddenly, she let loose her Judgment skill, killing it instantly.

“Are you okay, Luke?” she asked.

Luke muttered that he was just fine, then picked himself up using his sword as a crutch. Both he and Tear turned towards Harold, who was clapping on the sidelines and congratulating them for a splendidly interesting fight.

“It was interesting, alright. Now can I have my regular clothes back?” inquired Luke.

Harold sighed. “You’re no fun, boy. Oh well, I guess it can’t be helped; I did get the necessary data from watching you fight in that.” Once more, she pulled poor Luke to the ground, zapping him with the box. This time, when the fire cleared, he was back in his regular clothes. Of course, the holes were still there since Harold didn’t want to generate a fixed version of them.

“We’ll sew them when we get back to the Guild,” stated Tear. “Let’s just finish the mission.” She walked off, somewhat annoyed with Harold’s ideas of a delay. A moment later, Luke and Harold began to follow.
