So Phoenix sucked. For anyone who's never been, if you've ever been to one of those restaurants that makes pizzas in the big stone ovens, imagine one of those about 20 miles across and you've got Phoenix. The place sits on Hell's doorstep, I swear. I saw three people spontaneously combust on the sidewalk, and that was *after* the sun had gone down!
In a word, it's hot in Phoenix.
As for the job... what a joke. I landed in Phoenix at 6:15pm on Monday, and after the minor exodus through the airport terminal to baggage claim (ever heard of people movers? Phoenix airport hasn't) I rented a car (ended up with a Jeep Wrangler, they don't turn, they swivel, kinda neat) and went and checked into my hotel, then headed over to the jobsite.
So I arrive at the jobsite at 7:30pm. Mind you, all I'm really doing is adding seven special cables to a PBX system to break out the data signal to one of our integration boxes so we can capture the data coming from the ACD and store it alongside the associated audio recordings on our recorder. It all sounds complex, I know, but suffice it to say, I was simply adding cables. Fast forward to 2:30am Tuesday morning. I'm *still* there trying to figure out why nothing is working. So, I quit for the night and go to the hotel and crash. I'm back at the jobsite by 10am. Fast forward to 2:30pm Tuesday afternoon. I'm *still* there trying to figure out why nothing is working, only this time, I have a plane to catch that leaves at 4pm. Long story short, I caught my plane. Does out stuff work? No. Why? Well, at this point (on the plane), I have no clue. So I land at 9pm in Reno where Don picks me up and we go to a TGI Fridays before heading to the hotel. I drink dessert. Sierra Nevada. Mmm... the day is starting to look up. Nevermind that it's 10pm.
So I get back into the office on Wednesday afternoon...
Talk to the goofballs back at our corporate headquarters and find out, "Oh, we forgot, that integration box only had the first seven channels populated with chips, so those cables were *never* going to work, 'cause the box itself didn't have enough chips in it for the rest of the channels..."
Die die die die die...
Oh well, at least *I'm* not going back to Phoenix to fix it.
On the upside... today is Friday. Friday's are good.
