Where We Stand (On Our Feet)

Jan 22, 2016 15:19

Well, okay, not "we" but "I."

So we all know the east coast is getting hit with Snowpocalypse 2016 this weekend. The more southern states are already getting snow as of noon Friday. It's looking like here in northwest NJ, we won't be getting it until Saturday morning, and that it will all be over by Sunday morning. Which is good, because it means I didn't have to adjust this weekend's travel plans.

Sunday (1/24) I'm driving to Hartford for work, teaching up near the airport on Mon-Tues (1/15-26). Then it's up to Boston area (Natick) on Weds (1/27) for Thurs-Fri's (1/28-29) class. Biting the bullet (weather permitting) and driving home Friday night, because on Sunday (1/31) I have a 7:00 am flight to Indianopolis for work. Teaching in Indy Mon-Tues (2/1-2), then driving to Detroit on Weds (2/3) for that Thurs-Fri class (2/4-5), then flying homee on Saturday 2/6. The joy of this time of year is not really knowing how the weather in various parts of the northern half of the country will affect flights, so we'll see how this all plays out.

This week has been not very productive, thanks to the head-cold that knocked me out for good portions of Sunday through Weds (including total bedrest on Tuesday) in combination with a large work project that needed completing by yesterday (Thurs). Today was a scheduled "out" day because of the upcoming travel, and so far, it's been very productive: over 1,000 words written on a story I've been struggling to finish a first draft of. (Thanks to the good folks at Bagful O'Bagels for letting me take up a table for a couple of hours as I set myself various timed writing sprints to try to find motivation.) And the nice thing is, I think most of those 1,000 words are keepers (partially replacing an earlier-written scene that I was not happy with).  Writers Night dinner with my friend Jen tonight should give me as many words and perhaps will get me to the end of that first draft.

Reading-wise, I've been concentrating on short stories from various  magazines that have been lingering in my house for far too long. I still have to post today's story review.  I anticipate more novel reading coming up tomorrow with the bad weather keeping me home and with the DVR essentially cleared off.

writing, travel
